Continuing their great recent runs at awards ceremonies, Courtney Barnett and Tame Impala both picked up top honours at last night’s APRA Awards in Sydney.

Barnett, who won four ARIA Awards at the end of 2015 and recently took out The 11th Australian Music Prize for her debut album Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit, last night won Songwriter Of The Year.

The award had been won by Sia the last three years. The Adelaide-born artist didn’t walk away empty-handed this year, she took out Most Played Australian Work Overseas for ‘Chandelier’.

Tame Impala leader Kevin Parker took out the coveted Song Of The Year prize for ‘Let It Happen’. It’s the latest gong awarded to Tame Impala and their third album Currents; they won five ARIAs in 2015 and recently won Best International Group at the Brit Awards.

Canberra dance duo Peking Duk won both the Most Played Australian Work and Dance Work of the Year awards for their collaboration with Safia, ‘Take Me Over’.

Aussie rock icons Cold Chisel were presented with the Ted Albert award for outstanding services to Australian music by artist Ben Quilty.
