Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack hits #1

Debuts for Thundamentals, Adam Brand, Rag'N'Bone and more

The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to the 2017 film Fifty Shades Darker debuts at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The soundtrack to the first film in the trilogy also peaked at #1 in February 2015.

In its thirty sixth week in the top 50, Beyonce’s former #1 ‘Lemonade’ jumps 30 spots back up the chart to #12. Its resurgence comes on the back of her performance and appearance at the 2017 Grammy Awards.

With Guns N’ Roses currently touring the country, their presence on the album chart remains strong, ‘Greatest Hits’ jumps 5 spots to #5 and ‘Appetite for Destruction’ jumps 21 spots to #19. The band also notch up another two re-entries with ‘Use Your Illusion II’ at #33 and ‘Use Your Illusion I’ at #35.

Prince’s ‘The Very Best Of..’ also re-enters the top 50 at #45.

This week’s chart also includes moves for the likes of  Sia’s This Is Acting (up 5 to #42), Flume’s Skin (up 6 to #29), Adele’s 21 (up 10 to #28) and Jessica Mauboy’s The Secret Daughter Soundtrack (up 3 to #27).

Debuts

#1: Soundtrack ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ (Debut) – The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to the 2017 film Fifty Shades Darker debuts at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Fifty Shades Darker is the second instalment in the Fifty Shades trilogy, and follows the 2015 blockbuster smash Fifty Shades of Grey. The set features the track ‘I Don't Wanna Live Forever’ by Zayn and Taylor Swift which peaked at #3 on December 2016. The soundtrack to the first film in the trilogy peaked at #1 in February 2015.

#2: Thundamentals ‘Everyone We Know’ (Debut) – The fourth full-length studio album from Thundamentals gives the Australian Hip-hop outfit their highest peak on the Albums Chart. ‘Everyone We Know’ is the band’s first release since So We Can Remember (#3 May ’14). 

#3: Rag’N’Bone Man ‘Human’ (Debut) - British singer and songwriter Rag’N’Bone Man makes his first ARIA Albums Chart appearance with his debut album ‘Human’. The title track with the same name 'Human' peaked on the ARIA Singles Chart at #17 in January 2017.

#7: Adam Brand ‘Get On Your Feet’ (Debut) - Australian country musician Adam Brand snares his 13th top 50 appearance on the ARIA Albums Chart with his fifteenth studio album ‘Get On Your Feet’. It comes one year on from Adam Brand and The Outlaws which peaked at #6 on January 2016.

#22: Jay UF – Final Notice (Debut) - Australian hip hop artist Jay UF makes his ARIA Album Chart debut with ‘Final Notice’.

#20: Jess and Matt – Belmont Street (Debut) - Sydney pop duo / Australian X-Factor Runners-up Jess Dunbar and Matt Price return with 'Belmont Street’ a 6 track event EP with 5 iconic Australian covers and one original (lead sync track for Sydney DNSW campaign). The duo last charted on the ARIA Albums Chart with ‘Jess & Matt’ their self-titled debut album, which peaked at #9 in December of 2015.
