March 15, 2016

Killing Heidi and *NSYNC both had their first #1s this week, 16 years ago.

Reflector – Killing Heidi

This week in 2000, the debut album from Violet Town band Killing Heidi debuted at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. It was the start of two runs in the #1 spot for Reflector; the first lasted four straight weeks and after one week at #2, they returned for another three-week run. In total, the album spent 13 weeks in the top ten.

Reflector featured the #1 single ‘Mascara’ (Jan. ’00), as well as the top ten singles ‘Weir’ (#6 Dec. ’99) and ‘Live Without It’ (#5 Apr. ’00). The album won four awards at the 2000 ARIAs including Album Of The Year, Best Group and Best Rock Album. It was accredited 4x Platinum and #5 on the 2000 ARIA End Of Year Albums Chart.

Killing Heidi released two more albums – Present (#12 Nov. ’02) and Killing Heidi (#7 Sept. ’04) – before splitting in 2006.

Bye Bye ByE – *NSYNC

*NSYNC’s only #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart came when ‘Bye Bye Bye’ spent five consecutive weeks at #1 in March and April 2000. Released as the first single from the group’s second album, No Strings Attached (#3 Apr. ’00), it debuted at #1 and went on to spend eleven weeks in the top ten.

‘Bye Bye Bye’ was #7 on the 2000 ARIA End Of Year Singles Chart. It was certified Platinum.

After ‘Bye Bye Bye’, *NSYNC reached the top ten on the ARIA Singles Chart twice more – ‘Pop’ (#10 Jul. ’01) and ‘Gone Clubbin' / Girlfriend’ (#2 Apr. ’02) – prior to their split in 2002.
