Who'll challenge Drake for #1?

May 11, 2016

This week's contenders include albums from Keith Urban and Radiohead, singles from Delta Goodrem and Justin Timberlake.

Canadian rapper Drake picked up his first #1s on both the ARIA Albums and Singles Charts last week with Views and ‘One Dance’, respectively.

Can Drake make it a second week at #1 with either title or will the new week see new #1s?

Let’s check out some of the titles that could make an impact on this week’s chart.

Aussie country star Keith Urban is aiming for a third #1 on the Albums Chart with ninth album Ripcord; with their surprise release of their ninth album, A Moon Shaped Pool, Radiohead have a chance of scoring their first ever Australian #1; Kate Ceberano releases three-disc career retrospective Anthology; British MC Skepta could pick up his first top 50 appearance with fourth album Konnichiwa; Black Veil Brides front man Andy Black goes solo with The Shadow Side; Cyndi Lauper could pick up her first top 50 appearance since 2004 with Detour; also with a surprise release, British electronic artist James Blake returns with third album The Colour In Everything; country singer-songwriter Travis Collins returns with fifth album Hard Light; rockers The Screaming Jets could make their first top 50 appearance since 2000 with Chrome; Canadian producer Kaytranada could chart with debut album 99.9%; lead singer of Antony and the Johnsons, Anohni releases her first solo album Hopelessness.

Albums that could jump back up the chart this week include Prince’s The Hits / The B-Sides and Ultimate, Andrea Bocelli’s Cinema, Ronan Keating’s Time Of My Life and David Bowie’s Blackstar.

A year on from topping the Singles Chart with ‘Wings’, Delta Goodrem hopes to repeat that feat with ‘Dear Life’; Justin Timberlake returns with his first single in two years, ‘Can't Stop The Feeling!’, Ariana Grande could pick up a third charting single from Dangerous Woman with ‘Into You’; after the success of ‘Work’ (#5 Mar. ’16), Drake and Rihanna could chart together again with ‘Too Good’; Melbourne band The Temper Trap could be set for their first chart appearance since 2012 with ‘Fall Together’.

Tracks looking to climb their way up the chart this week include DNCE’s ‘Cake By The Ocean’, Ghost Town DJ's’ ‘My Boo’, Topic’s ‘Home’ and Kungs Vs Cookin On 3 Burners’ ‘ This Girl’.

The weekly ARIA Charts announcement happens every Saturday at 6pm.
