REVIEW: Kylie Minogue -- 'The Abbey Roads Sessions' Album

If you are at heart a true Kylie Minogue fan there are only two ways you can feel about this album, you’ll love it or you’ll hate it. This sixteen track record album celebrates the pop princess’ 25 years of topping the charts on an international scale. As the name of the album states, all songs were recorded at the most beloved and famous Abbey Roads Studio.

The melodies are slower, the voice is sultry and with most songs on this album you instantly feel as if you are at a blues lounge in New Orleans in the 1940’s where soul and jazz ruled the music scene. For the first few songs on the album you are pleasantly confronted with piano, guitar and soft percussions, her track ‘On A Night Like This’ giving a perfect example of that old blues feeling.

Kylie seems to add the theme of every decade past in each of her songs. Her well known single ‘The Locomotion’ has been reinvented to almost represent a 1960’s feel where Motown reigned over radio. You almost expect the Jersey Boys to jump in as backup vocals to this song.

Burlesque! Need I say more? This seems to be a theme the world can’t get enough of, and neither can Kylie. Her track ‘Slow’ exuding sexy, teasing and very, very seductive.

With the assistance of an orchestra in various songs, only seems to add to what a pleasure it is to listen to this album. Listening to Minogue’s hit song ‘Can’t Get You Out Of Head’ you are instantaneously hit with a powerful violin ballad with the accompaniment of a large orchestra throughout the remainder of the song. This only goes to show what a radical change these tracks have taken.

Well its official, Kylie Minogue may be the first artist to release an album dedicated to covering her own music, but may I say she has done a fantastic job!! ‘The Abbey Roads Sessions’ seems to have it all, upbeat tunes, slow and heartfelt lyrics accompanied by a seductive and slow melody, it’s sure to please all.

The album is classy and elegant and I instantly feel like I should be sitting on a chesterfield couch and a scotch on the rocks in hand.
