Singles

Jonas Blue’s tropical house cover of Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car hits No.1 on the ARIA Singles Chart. Chapman’s original peaked at No.4 in June 1988. After debuting at No.10 last week, Never Be Like You has jumped eight spots to give Flume his first Top 3 on the ARIA Singles Chart. With Nine Track Mind out this week, One Call Away moves up seven spots to equal Charlie Puth’s ARIA Singles Chart peak, achieved with Marvin Gaye in May 2015. The week’s highest re-entry comes from Menangle band The Rubens. Hoops, the title track to their second studio album, took out the No.1 spot in Triple J’s Hottest 100 on Australia Day. It is a new peak for the track, having previously peaked at No.25 last October.

No.64       I'M IN CONTROL - AlunaGeorge.  This week’s highest chart debut comes from English electronic music duo AlunaGeorge. Consisting of Londoners Aluna Francis (vocals and songwriting) and George Reid (production and instrumentation), the track marks the duo’s first solo appearance on the ARIA Top 100 Singles chart. The track features Jamaican dancehall recording artist Popcaan and is taken from the album I Remember.

No.74       WHEN THE BASSLINE DROPS - Craig David & Big Narstie.  English R&B Artist Craig David has released his first single in six years, When The Bassline Drops. The track sees David return to his UK garage roots and features English grime artist Big Narstie. David last charted back in 2008 with his single Insomnia (No.89 Nov. ’08) and scored his chart peak back in 2001 with 7 Days (No.4 Jan. ’01).

No.78       PROMISE - Kid Ink Feat. Fetty Wap.  Brian Todd Collins, better known by his stage name Kid Ink, has notched up another appearance on the ARIA Top 100 Singles with Promise. The single is cut from his 2015 album Summer In The Winter and features American hip-hop artist Fetty Wap. Kid Ink last charted with Hotel (No.60 Feb. ’15).

No.79       THE LESS I KNOW THE BETTER - Tame Impala.  A return to the charts this week for Australia’s Tame Impala following their recent domination on the Triple J Hottest 100 Countdown last week. The Less I Know The Better came in at No.4 on the countdown and joins the bands ever growing list of ARIA chart appearances. The single Let It Happen also re-entered the chart this week at No. 93. Both singles are cut from Tame Impala’s ARIA Award-winning third album Currents, which this week has jumped back up the ARIA Albums chart to No.16.

No.92       KAMIKAZE - MØ.  Danish electro-pop singer, Karen Marie Ørsted, better known by her stage name , has made her maiden debut as a solo artist on the ARIA Top 100 Singles chart with the single Kamikaze. The song is a collaboration between and Diplo of Major Lazer, the two previously collaborated on the No.1 single Lean On (No.1 Apr. ’15).

ALBUMS:

The second studio album from RüFüS gives the Sydney dance trio their second No.1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Bloom is the follow-up to Atlas (No.1 Aug. ’13) and features the singles You Were Right (No.22 July ’15), Like An Animal (44 Nov. ’15) and Say A Prayer For Me (No.47 this week). Bloom is the first Australian No.1 on the ARIA Albums Chart for 2016. A week on from re-entering the chart following the passing of Eagles founding member Glenn Frey, The Complete Greatest Hits has jumped into the Top 10 for the first time, landing at No.10. Selected Works: 1972-1999 has also moved significantly, this week it is at No.22. Following their success on the Triple J Hottest 100 countdown, the second album from The Rubens has re-entered the albums chart this week, jumping in at No.15. Hoops originally debuted at No.2 on the ARIA Albums Chart in August 2015. A jump back up the chart for Tame Impala’s ARIA Award-winning third album Currents following the band’s strong showing in the Triple J Hottest 100. The band equaled Courtney Barnett for most songs in the countdown with four. Tame Impala featured in the countdown with The Less I Know The Better (No.4), Let It Happen (No.5). Eventually (No.34) and Cause I'm A Man (No.61).

No.1         BLOOM - RüFüS.  The ARIA Award winning alternative dance trio out of Sydney, RüFüS, have claimed the top spot for the second time in their short career. Bloom brings relief to the dedicated fans of the trio, who have been dangling and teasing singles from the album since mid-last year. The Sydney-siders previously walked out with the award for Best Electronic Album at the Australian Independent Record Awards for their debut No.1 album Atlas.

No.6         DYSTOPIA - Megadeth.  Thrash metal veterans Megadeth return with fifteenth studio album, Dystopia. The follow-up to Super Collider (No.28 June ’13) is the band’s first appearance in the Top 10 since Youthanasia (No.9 Nov. ’94).

No.74       ADORE LIFE - Savages.  Post punk revivalists, Savages, have made their first appearance on the ARIA Albums Chart with their second album Adore Life. The UK outfit has had critics raving and fans drooling with this new release, which is said to be a collection of the loudest love songs ever recorded.

No.92       BENNETT BOWTELL URQUHART - Bennett Bowtell & Urquhart. Australian country trio consisting of Kevin Bennett, Lyn Bowtell and Felicity Urquhart have dropped their debut album Bennett Bowtell Urquhart. The album was launched at this year’s Tamworth Country Music Festival and has so far been a raving success for the newly formed trio.
