Flume hits #1 with 'Never Be Like You

There’s new ‪#‎1s‬ at the top of the ARIA Charts again this week! Flume picks up his first #1 on the Singles Chart with Never Be Like You. On the Albums Chart, Molly (Soundtrack From The TV Series) jumps to #1! There’s also debuts for Elton John, Lucinda Williams, Hilltop Hoods, Lukas Graham, Coldplay and more!

Singles

For a third week in a row we have a new No.1 single atop the ARIA Singles Chart, with local EDM artist Flume with the newly crowned Gold track “Never Be Like You” featuring vocals from Kai after holding at No.2 for the past two weeks.

“Never Be Like You” (#1 digital/#2 streamed) becomes the 483rd No.1 single for ARIA (1983 to 2016), plus the first EVER (on the singles chart) for record label Future Classic. Flume is the first Aussie act to hit the top this year and he also becomes the 39th Aussie Solo Male artist to reach No.1, the last being Conrad Sewell in June of 2015 with “Start Again”, plus he also becomes the 106th Australian act to reach the top and the song is the 162nd No.1 performed by an Australia artist, with the last local act to reach No.1 being “Wings” for Delta Goodrem in mid-August of 2015 (info pre-and post ARIA) 

Last weeks No.1 debut for Zayn of “Pillowtalk” drops a place to No.2 this week and is also Gold in sales and the new No.1 streamed track of the week, whilst jumping up eight places to make their first chart entry become their first Top 10 hit are twenty one pilots with “Stressed Out” (it has also reached No.3 in the USA, #4 this week), which is the #2 downloaded track around the country, but it’s streaming position is only #15 (up from #30). 

The pilots’ jump pushes Charlie Puth down one place to No.4 with “One Call Away” and climbing a single spot to a new peak of No.5 is Kiiara with “Gold”, whilst falling two places apiece are Justin Bieber with “Love Yourself” and another former No.1 in “Fast Car” by Jonas Blue feat Dakota to No.6 and No.7 respectively. Holding at No.8 for another week is Zara Larsson with “Lush Life” whilst also down two spots are Snakehips with Tinashe and Chance the Rapper on “All My Friends” to No.9. Leaping nine places to land their second Top 10 at No.10 are The Chainsmokers with “Roses”, which also achieves Gold in sales this week, with their first Top 10 being “#Selfie” (HP-3, April 2014). 

UP

Selena Gomez is back to her former peak of No.13 with “Hands to Myself” and “My House” by Flo Rida is up five spots to No.15 (#9 digi/#23 stream), whilst just outside of the Top 20 we see G-Eazy and Bebe Rexha jump up seventeen spots to a new peak of No.21 with “Me, Myself & I”. Sia continues to climb with her “Cheap Thrills”, up five to No.22 this week and the new One Direction track “History” is back up six to it’s original late November 2015 peak of No.29. 

DOWN

After debuting at No.10 last week, Rihanna is down one spot to No.11 with her new track “Work” (HP-10), with the other Top 10 dropout being “Hoops” (HP-9, WI10-2) for The Rubens, which drops fourteen places to No.23 this week. The Top 20 consists of mostly one and two places drops, and of note is Adele’s “Hello” which is down a place to No.19 and newly certified 5xPlatinum in sales. “Youth” for Troye Sivan debuted on the US Singles chart this past week, and here it is down four spots to No.26, whilst Justin’s “What Do You Mean” is down three to No.27 and now 4xPlatinum. “IN2” for WSTRN is down five to No.33 and falling six places each are ZHU, Skrillex & THEY with “Working for it” (now Gold ) and “The Trouble with Us” for Marcus Marr & Chet Faker, both down to No.36 and No.37 respectively. 


Lukas Graham Forchhammer is the lead singer of the four piece Danish act Lukas Graham, who have so far landed five No.1 singles in their home country and their first two self-titled albums have also gone to the top, whilst here they debut with their first chart entry at No.20 entitled “7 Years”, which is the new No.1 single in the UK this week and the track has also reached the top spot in Austria, The Netherlands, Belgium, Scotland and Sweden, whilst it jumped from No.57 to #43 in the US this past week. 

The Hilltop Hoods are releasing their new re-strung album next week, entitled “Drinking from the Sun, Walking under Stars Restrung”, which features tracks from their past two albums along with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. Recently we had the #10 single “Higher” (TW-42) released from the album, and now the second track lifted from the new release debuts at No.25 entitled “1955”, which features guest artists Montaigne and Tom Thum, and this becomes the Adelaide groups fourteenth Top 100 entry and their tenth Top 50 placing. 

Coldplay performed the half-time Superbowl show this past week, and they score a new entry from this week with “Hymn for the Weekend” featuring Beyonce, new at No.32, whilst their former Top 20 hit “Adventure of a Lifetime” rebounds into the Top 50 at No.45. When the Adele “25” album came out last year, a heap of album tracks leapt onto the charts, including the albums now official second release “When We Were Young” (HP-13), which this week returns to the chart at No.39, and climbing into the Top 50 with his new track is Conrad Sewell, new at No.44 with “Remind Me”, becoming his fifth Top 50 hit here. 

ALBUMS

After the screening last Sunday night of the first of two parts for the TV mini-series “Molly”, the 3CD soundtrack set for the show leaps up eight places to land at No.1 on the ARIA Albums Chart this week. 

“Molly” becomes the 606th No.1 album for ARIA (1983 to 2016), plus the eighth for the Liberation Record label, with their last being the Vance Joy debut set “Dream Your Life Away” (15-Sept, 2014; TW-24), plus it is also the 45th Soundtrack/Cast Recording album to go to No.1 in Australia, the last being the Dr. Dre set “Compton” (17-Aug. 2015) and the last one for a TV show was in March 2011 with “Glee: The Music Volume 5”, overall it’s the fifth TV soundtrack to hit the top and the first No.1 album to feature the word ‘Molly’. 

The album achieves Platinum in sales this week, and is the first multi-CD (60 songs over 3 CD’s) No.1 album since the 2CD set of Triple J ‘Like a Version Vol.11’ hit the top in October 2015, and this week two years ago we had a similar chart feat, when the INXS biopic/mini-series screened, which sent their set “The Very Best” (TW-36) to No.1, spending seven broken weeks at the top. 

During its twelve weeks on the chart, Adele’s “25” has only ever been at No.1 or No.2, and this week its spending its fourth non-consecutive week at No.2, whilst returning to its former peak of No.3 is the David Bowie compilation “Nothing Has Changed: The Best of”, with his “Blackstar” album having occupied that position last week, it falls four places this week to No.7. 

Justin Bieber is back up three spots to No.4 with his “Purpose” album and last weeks No.1 debut “This is Acting” by Sia drops down to No.5 this week, which is the same drop that the previous #1 album did, “Bloom” by Rufus which this week is down four to No.9. Coldplay rebound six places to No.6 with “A Head Full of Dreams” after their Superbowl appearance last weekend (the album went to #1 in the UK for the first time this week) and two further debuts from last week survive for a second week within the Top 10, “ANTI” by Rihanna and “Nine Track Mind” for Charlie Puth at No.8 and No.10 respectively. 

UP

Halsey lands her first singles chart entry with “Hold Me Down” this week, and her album “Badlands” (HP-2) rebounds twenty-three places to No.12, and thanks to his tour here James Bay and “Chaos and the Calm” is back up twenty-two spots to No.15. With the new twenty one pilots single “Stressed Out” jumping to No.3; it helps pull their current studio album “Blurryface” (HP-11) back up seven spots to No.18 and thanks to their appearance at the current ‘Laneway Festival’, Chvrches and their “Every Open Eye” set this week leaps back into the fifty at No.19. Adele and her second set “21” is back up seven to No.33 and Vance Joy are up nine spots to No.24 with “Dream Your Life Away”, whilst “The Very Best of The Eagles” is up twelve chart-rungs to No.26. Two years ago “The Very Best” for INXS was at No.1 (from 17-Feb, 2014) after their biopic mini-series screened, and the album this week is back up fourteen places to No.36, whilst another Laneway act and the holder of the new #1 single in the country, the self-titled debut album for Flume jumps back into the fifty at No.43, whilst the final returning album to the Top 50 is Lana Del Rey with her “Honeymoon”, back at No.49. 

DOWN

The only album dropping out of the Top 10 from last week is the No.10 debut for Dream Theater entitled “The Astonishing” (HP-10) which falls twenty-nine spots to No.39 this week. The “Straight Outta Compton” soundtrack drops ten places to No.29 and down twelve to No.34 is the Megadeth set “Dystopia”, whilst Troye Sivan falls sixteen to No.37 with his “Blue Neighbourhood”. Falling eleven to No.38 are The Eagles with “Selected Works 1972-1999” and descending twenty-four spots to No.40 are The Rubens with their “Hoops” set. “Title” for Meghan Trainor is down six to No.45 and falling fifteen to No.46 are Boy & Bear with their “Limit of Love” album. 

Elton John’s 32nd studio album “Wonderful Crazy Night” is the highest new entry this week at No.11, becoming his highest charting (studio) album since his 2001 set “Songs from the West Coast” (debuted 8-Oct, 2001) which climbed to No.7 in early May 2002, and his last Top 10 appearance was with the compilation “Rocket Man: The Definitive Hits” (HP-10, peaked mid-April 2007). 

The next new entry at No.20 is the twelfth studio album for Lucinda Williams entitled “The Ghosts of Highway 20”, which by debuting so high it instantly becomes her highest charting album in Australia, and her second to crack the Top 50, as her eleventh set “Down Where the Spirit Meets the Bone” (HP-32) made it in October 2014, and overall this becomes her eight studio album to chart here. 


Elevation Worship are a contemporary Christian and worship multi-member band from the Elevation Church in Charlotte, North Carolina and they have released four studio and five live albums, their fifth live set entitled “Here as in Heaven” enters at No.27 this week, and four places lower at No.31 is the fourth album for US rapper Future entitled “Evol” which becomes his first album to chart here in Australia. 

One of the two male-members of Lady Antebellum is Charles Kelley whose debut solo album “The Driver” lands at No.35 this week, with the title track from the album featuring guest singers Dierks Bentley and Eric Paslay already up for a Grammy nomination for ‘Best Country Duo/Group Performance’, and a new Wiggles album entitled “Wiggle Town” debuts at No.41 becoming their fifth Top 50 appearance. 

One place lower at No.42 is the tenth studio album for rockers The Cult entitled “Hidden City”, becoming their eighth albums chart entry in Australia (7 studio and 1 best of), and their first Top 50 appearance since their 1994 self-titled sixth album which debuted and peaked at No.7, with this album peaking at No.19 in the UK recently. The final Top 50 debut this week is new at No.48, “Khalifa” for Wiz Khalifa, which is his sixth studio album and now his second Top 50 appearance, as his last album “Blacc Hollywood” debuted and peaked at No.26 in September 2014.
