Debuts for Peter Garrett, Emma Louise, Stonefield and more!

There’s another new #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart this week, with Good Charlotte debuting in the top spot with Youth Authority (see below).

Last week’s #1, Wildflower by The Avalanches, has slipped just one spot, sitting at #2 this week.

There’s moves up the Albums Chart this week for Disturbed’s Immortalized (up four to #24), Hilltop Hoods’ Drinking From The Sun, Walking Under Stars Restrung (up four to #25), Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ This Unruly Mess I've Made (up four to #32) and The 1975’s I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It (up three to #44).

Debuts:

#1: Good Charlotte ‘Youth Authority’ – With their first album in six years, American pop punks Good Charlotte claim their second #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Youth Authority is the band’s first release since returning from a hiatus undertaken after the release of Cardiology (#3 Nov. ’10). In between Good Charlotte releases, Joel and Benji Madden released their debut as The Madden Brothers, Greetings From California (#1 Sept. ’14). Good Charlotte first topped the ARIA Albums Chart with The Chronicles Of Life And Death (#1 Oct. ’04).

#3: Peter Garrett ‘A Version Of Now’ – The debut solo album from Midnight Oil front man and former Federal MP, Peter Garrett. A Version Of Now is Garrett’s first new music since the Midnight Oil album Capricornia (#8 Mar. ’02). He’s just begun a national tour in support of the album.

#14: Emma Louise ‘Super Cry’ – Album two from Brisbane singer-songwriter Emma Louise. Super Cry is the follow up to 2013’s debut vs Head vs Heart (#12 Apr. ’13). Her debut album earned Emma Louise a nomination for Best Female Artist at the 2013 ARIA Awards.

#19: Stonefield ‘As Above, So Below’ – The second album from Stonefield gives the Victorian sisters their highest peak on the Albums Chart. As Above, So Below comes three years on from the quartet’s self-titled debut (#21 Oct. ’13).

#21: Soundtrack ‘Ghostbusters’ – The soundtrack to the new Ghostbusters film. It features tracks by the likes of Zayn, Elle King, Mark Ronson and Fall Out Boy. 5 Seconds Of Summer’s contribution, ‘Girls Talk Boys’, has debuted at #21 on this week’s Singles Chart. The soundtrack to the original Ghostbusters film peaked at #11 in December 1984.

#35: Michael Kiwanuka ‘Love & Hate’ – British soul artist Michael Kiwanuka makes his top 50 debut Love & Hate. Kiwanuka’s second album comes more than four years on from his debut, 2012’s Home Again.

#37: Steven Tyler ‘We're All Somebody From Somewhere’ – After 46 years fronting Aerosmith, Steven Tyler releases his debut solo album We're All Somebody From Somewhere. The country album includes a re-working of the Aerosmith hit ‘Janie's Got A Gun’ (#1 Feb. ’90).

#38: Jeff Beck ‘Loud Hailer’ – The eleventh solo studio album from guitar hero and former Yardbird Jeff Beck. Loud Hailer is Beck’s first album since Emotion & Commotion (#49 Apr. ’10) six years ago.

#43: Slim Dusty ‘Prime Movers’ – A new compilation from the late, great Slim Dusty. Prime Movers features 20 classic trucking songs from throughout the ARIA Hall Of Famers’ career. Slim Dusty last charted with The Den Tapes (#27 Nov. ’15).

#46: NeedToBreathe ‘H A R D L O V E’ – NeedToBreathe make their 50 debut with sixth album H A R D L O V E. The American band released their debut album Daylight in 2006 and their last two albums have charted in the top ten in the US.
