Debuts for Childish Gambino, Cold Chisel, Kate Miller-Heidke and more!

Returning with their first studio album in over ten years, Blue & Lonesome, the legendary Rolling Stones have hit #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart for the first time in over 20 years (see below).

With his national tour underway and three Grammy nominations, Keith Urban returns to the top ten at #7 with Ripcord. The former #1 album was nominated for Best Country Album and the single ‘Blue Ain't Your Color’ has been nominated for Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song.

In its third week in the top 50, the soundtrack to Trolls has jumped a further nine spots to a new peak of #12.

Also touring Australia, Coldplay have jumped eight spots to #14 with A Head Full Of Dreams. The band’s 4 CD Catalogue Set has re-entered the chart at #50.

Christmas albums continue to make their presence felt on the chart, with Michael Bublé’s Christmas moving up one spot to #2. A Pentatonix Christmas is also up one spot to #23. Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas is up six to #25. Human Nature’s The Christmas Album is up eight to #30. Pentatonix’s That’s Christmas To Me is up five to #32. The Ten Tenors have re-entered the chart at #42 with Our Christmas Wish.

Debuts:

#1: The Rolling Stones ‘Blue & Lonesome’ – With their first studio album since A Bigger Bang (#4 Sept. ’05) The Rolling Stones have scored their first #1 on the ARIA Charts since Voodoo Lounge (#1 Jul. ’94). Recorded in just three days, Blue & Lonesome features covers of blues artists including Willie Dixon, Little Walter, Howlin’ Wolf, Memphis Slim and more.

Prior to the advent of the ARIA Charts, The Rolling Stones scored #1s in Australia with The Rolling Stones (3 weeks, 1965), Their Satanic Majesties Request (3 weeks, 1968), Sticky Fingers (2 weeks, 1971), Goats Head Soup (4 weeks, 1973) and Tattoo You (11 weeks, 1981).

#9: Childish Gambino ‘“Awaken, My Love!”’ – American musician/actor Donald Glover picks up his highest ARIA Charts peak with “Awaken, My Love!” the third album released under the Childish Gambino moniker. The album comes three years on from Because The Internet (#37 Dec. ’13). In between, Glover released the EP Kauai (#25 Oct. ’14). The track ‘Redbone’ becomes Childish Gambino’s first top 50 entry on the ARIA Singles Chart this week, debuting at #42.

#11: Cold Chisel ‘The Live Tapes Vol. 3: Live At The Manly Vale Hotel, Sydney June 7, 1980’ – The third release in Cold Chisel’s Live Tapes series. It overtakes The Live Tapes Vol. 2: Live At Bombay Rock, April 27, 1979 (#19 Nov. ’14) as the series’ highest peak. The show was recorded in the same week the band’s third album East was released.

#26: Soundtrack ‘The Hamilton Mixtape’ – An all-star cast including Sia, The Roots, Chance The Rapper and Alicia Keys reinterpret tracks from the musical Hamilton on The Hamilton Mixtape. The original soundtrack for Hamilton - An American Musical peaked at #42 in June.

#31: Guy Sebastian ‘Part 1 - EP’ – Guy Sebastian picks up his first Albums Chart appearance since Madness (#6 Dec. ’14) with the Part 1 EP. The six-track release features the single ‘Set In Stone’ (#11 Nov. ’16)

#35: Kate Miller-Heidke ‘The Best Of Kate Miller-Heidke: Act One’ – A two-disc set bringing together the career-so-far of Brisbane singer-songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke. The album features the singles ‘Words’ (#43 Jul. ’07), ‘Can’t Shake It’ (#38 Oct. ’08), ‘Caught In The Crowd’ (#33 Jun. ’09) and ‘The Last Day’ On Earth’ (#3 Aug. ’09).

#37: John Legend ‘Darkness And Light’ – Album five from American singer-songwriter John Legend. The follow-up to Love In The Future (#15 Jan. ’14) features the single ‘Love Me Now’ (#25 Nov. ’16), as well as appearances by Chance The Rapper, Miguel and Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard.

#41: Twenty One Pilots ‘Vessel/Blurryface’ – A double album package bring together Twenty One Pilots’ third album Vessels and most recent release Blurryface (#7 Aug. ’16).
