Powderfinger - Internationalist

Brisbane band Powderfinger took out the first of their five #1s on the ARIA Albums Chart when Internationalist debuted at #1 in September 1998. The group’s third album – the follow-up to Double Allergic (#4 Jan. ’97) – spent one week at #1 before going on to notch up 18 weeks in the Top Ten and 101 weeks in the Top 50.

Two singles from the album charted in the Top 50: ‘The Day You Come’ (#25 Aug. ’98) and ‘Passenger’ (#30 Aug. ’99).

Internationalist was accredited 5x Platinum. It made the ARIA End Of Year Albums Chart in three consecutive years, hitting #66 in 1998, #17 in 1999 and #48 in 2000.

At the 1999 ARIA Awards, Powderfinger took out four of the five categories they were nominated in, including Best Cover Art, Best Rock Album and Album Of The Year for Internationalist.

Powderfinger also scored #1 albums with Odyssey Number Five (#1 Sept. ’00), Vulture Street (#1 Jul. ’03), Dream Days At The Hotel Existence (#1 Jun. ’07) and Golden Rule (#1 Nov. ’09). They split in 2010.

Aerosmith - I Don't Want To Miss A Thing

American rockers Aerosmith snared their second #1 single when ‘I Don't Want To Miss A Thing’ spent nine straight weeks at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart between September and November, 1998. Taken from the soundtrack to the film Armageddon (#5 Aug. ’98), ‘I Don't Want To Miss A Thing’ debuted at #28 in early August and hit #1 for the first time in its fifth week in the Top 50. The single spent a total of 16 weeks in the Top Ten and 30 weeks in the Top 50.

‘I Don't Want To Miss A Thing’ was #4 on the ARIA End Of Year Singles Chart of 1998 and has been accredited 2x Platinum. It was their last single to date to chart in the Top 50 in Australia.

Aerosmith first topped the ARIA Singles Chart with ‘Janie's Got A Gun’ (#1 Feb. ’90).
