Debuts for Gorillaz, Adam Harvey & Beccy Cole, Lea Michele and more!

After eight straight weeks at #1, Ed Sheeran has been knocked off the #1 spot on the ARIA Albums Chart by Sydney’s Bliss N Eso, who become the fifth Australian act to top the ARIA Albums Chart in 2017 with their sixth album, Off The Grid (see below).

With Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2: Awesome Mix Vol. 2 still at #3, Guardians Of The Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol. 1 jumps back into the top ten at #8.

As Bruno Mars announces his national tour for March 2018, 24K Magic moves up 21 spots to #10.

There have also been big moves this week for Aled Jones’ One Voice (up 25 to #13), Keith Urban’s Ripcord (up seven to #20) and The Ten Tenors’ Wish You Were Here (up 20 to #29).

Debuts:

#1: Bliss N Eso ‘Off The Grid’ – With their sixth studio album, Sydney hip hop trio Bliss N Eso have scored their third #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Off The Grid is the follow-up to Circus In The Sky (#1 Jul. ’13) and includes the singles ‘Dopamine’ (#38 Oct. ’16) and ‘Moments’ (#25 May ’17). Bliss N Eso first topped the ARIA Albums Chart with Running On Air (#1 Aug. ’10).

#4: Gorillaz ‘Humanz’ – Virtual band Gorillaz re-emerge for the first time since 2011 with Humanz. The group’s fifth album features a host of guests including Grace Jones, Mavis Staples, Danny Brown, De La Soul, Pusha T, Noel Gallagher and Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn. Gorillaz last charted with The Fall (#41 Apr. ’11) and previously topped the Albums Chart with Plastic Beach (#1 Mar. ’10).

#6: Adam Harvey & Beccy Cole ‘The Great Country Songbook Vol. II’ – Australian country stars Adam Harvey and Beccy Cole team up for duets album The Great Country Songbook Vol. II. The duo covers country favourites including ‘Jackson’. ‘If I Were A Carpenter’ and ‘Islands In The Stream’. The original Great Country Songbook was released by Harvey and Troy Cassar-Daley. It peaked at #2 in June 2013.

#25: Lea Michele ‘Places’ – Former Glee star Lea Michele returns with Places. It’s the singer/actor’s her second solo album, following on from Louder (#4 Mar. ’14).

#28: CDB ‘Tailored For Now - Eleven R&B Super Jams’ – Melbourne R&B group CDB release their first studio album in 20 years, Tailored For Now. The album includes the quartet’s take on tracks by the likes of Bobby Brown, R Kelly, Montell Jordan, Keith Sweat and more. CDB last charted with Lifted (#45 Nov. ’97).

#30: Tim Rogers ‘An Actor Repairs’ – You Am I front man Tim Rogers goes solo for a sixth time with An Actor Repairs. Since the release of fifth album Rogers Plays Rogerstein (#45 Sept. ’12), Rogers has also charted with his collaboration with The Bamboos, The Rules Of Attraction (#26 Jun. ’15), and with You Am I’s tenth album Porridge & Hotsauce (#20 Nov. ’15).

#31: Bee Gees ‘Timeless: The All-Time Greatest Hits’ – A new 21-track compilation bringing together some of the greatest tracks recorded by the brothers Gibb. Timeless spans the trio’s career from 1966’s ‘Spicks And Specks’ to ‘You Win Again’ (#10 Nov. ’87).

#36: New Found Glory ‘Makes Me Sick’ – With their ninth studio album, American pop punk band New Found Glory have scored their seventh top 50 entry on the ARIA Albums Chart. Makes Me Sick comes three years on from Resurrection (#33 Oct. ’14). The album’s release comes as the band celebrate their 20th anniversary.

#37: Various Artists ‘Eurovision Song Contest 2017 Kyiv’ – This album brings together the 42 entries of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. The 62nd edition of Eurovision will be held in Kyiv, Ukraine between 9 and 13 May. Australia will be represented by Isaiah Firebrace, who’ll sing the track ‘Don’t Come Easy’. Eurovision Song Contest Stockholm 2016 peaked at #9 in May last year.

#38: Willie Nelson ‘God's Problem Child’ – Country legend Willie Nelson releases his 61st studio album, God's Problem Child. The album gives Nelson his first appearance in the top 50 of the ARIA Albums Chart since Legend: The Best Of Willie Nelson (#49 May ’08). It’s Nelson’s first album of new material to chart in the top 50 since Moonlight Becomes You (#20 Apr. ’94).

#45: Airling ‘Hard To Sleep, Easy To Dream’ – Airling is the moniker of Brisbane artist Hannah Shepherd. Debut album Hard To Sleep, Easy To Dream was produced by Big Scary’s Tom Iansek.
