This week’s ARIA Albums Chart sees Canadian singer-songwriter Shania Twain return to the #1 spot for the first time in 15 years with comeback album Now (see below).

Following the passing of legendary American singer-songwriter Tom Petty on 2 October, the 1993 compilation Greatest Hits returns to top 50. The album originally peaked at #16 in January 1994, meaning it snares a new peak this week.

On the back of football Grand Final appearances last weekend, The Killers have re-entered at #10 with Direct Hits (a new peak) and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ The Heist has returned to the chart at #21.

With ‘Rockstar’ spending a second week at #1 on the Singles Chart, Post Malone’s Stoney has climbed up eight spots to a new peak of #17.

Debuts:

#1: Shania Twain ‘Now’ – Returning with her first album of new material in 15 years, Canadian country pop star Shania Twain takes out her third #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Twain’s fifth album, Now marks the singer-songwriter’s return to recording after a period away from music following Greatest Hits (#10 Nov. ’04). Twain has previously hit #1 on the Albums Chart with Come On Over (#1 Feb. ’99) and Up! (#1 Nov. ’02).

#2: Miley Cyrus ‘Younger Now’ – The sixth studio album from Miley Cyrus gives the American singer-songwriter a fourth top ten entry on the ARIA Albums Chart. Released two years on from the experimental album Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, Younger Now sees Cyrus turning back towards country pop. It includes the singles ‘Malibu’ (#3 May ’17) and the title track (#49 Aug. ’17). Miley Cyrus’s other top ten entries have been with Breakout (#1 Sept. ’08), Can’t Be Tamed (#4 Jul. ’10) and Bangerz (#1 Oct. ’13).

#7: Rick Price & Jack Jones ‘California Dreaming’ – Australian singer-songwriters Rick Price and Jack Jones team up to reimagine 60s and 70s classics on California Dreaming. The album includes covers of tracks made famous by the likes of Eagles, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, The Doors and more. Price last appeared in the top 50 with the album Tamborine Mountain (#11 Aug. ’95), while Jones’ last top entry was with the Southern Sons album Nothing But The Truth (#26 May ’93).

#8: Demi Lovato ‘Tell Me You Love Me’ – Two years on from scoring her first top ten entry on the Albums Chart with Confident (#3 Oct. ’15) Demi Lovato claims her second with Tell Me You Love Me. Lovato’s sixth album features the single ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ (#8 Sept. ’17), her highest peak to date on the Singles Chart.

#14: Michael Jackson ‘Scream’ – Some of Michael Jackson’s spookier tracks come together on the new compilation Scream. The first new Jackson release since Xscape (#2 May ’14) includes ‘Dirty Diana’ (#26 Jun. ’88), ‘Scream’ (#2 Jun. ’95), ‘Blood On The Dancefloor’ (#5 May ’97) and more.

#18: Benny Andersson ‘Piano’ – ABBA’s Benny Andersson reimagines tracks from throughout his catalogue on the solo album Piano. As well as ABBA tracks, the album includes solo compositions and tracks from musicals Andersson’s had a hand in writing. It’s the first solo appearance on the Albums Chart for Andersson. ABBA bandmate Agnetha Fältskog peaked at #3 in May 2013 with A.

#24: Winston Surfshirt ‘Sponge Cake’ – Sydney’s Winston Surfshirt releases their debut album Sponge Cake. The six-piece have already had a big 2017, opening for both Midnight Oil and RÜFÜS, as well as having their music played by Sir Elton John on his Beats 1 radio show and getting to meet the man himself during his Australian tour.

#26: Propagandhi ‘Victory Lap’ – Canadian punks Propagandhi return with their first album in five years, Victory Lap. The group’s seventh studio album becomes their first to chart in the ARIA top 50.

#34: Johnny Mathis ‘Johnny Mathis Sings The Great New American Songbook’ – Veteran pop singer Johnny Mathis returns to the Albums Chart for the first time since 2006 with Johnny Mathis Sings The Great New American Songbook. The album sees Mathis performing his take on tracks such as ‘Hallelujah’, ‘You Raise Me Up’, ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ and ‘Just The Way You Are’. Mathis last charted with The Very Best Of (#15 May ’06).

#45: Pearl Jam ‘Let's Play Two’ – American rockers Pearl Jam pick up their fifth top 50 entry with a live album with Let's Play Two. The album and accompanying film was recorded across two nights at Chicago’s Wrigley Field at the end of Pearl Jam’s 2016 tour. The band have previously charted with the album albums Live On Two Legs (#4 Nov. ’98), #10 Perth February 23 2003 (#35 Apr. ’03), Live At Benaroya Hall - Oct 22, 2003 (#27 Aug. ’04) and Live On Ten Legs (#15 Jan. ’11).
