Debuts for Macklemore, Van Morrison, British India and more!

Returning with their fifth studio album and first in five years, Wonderful Wonderful, Las Vegas band The Killers have claimed their second #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart (see below).

In its second week in the top 50, Elvis Presley’s The 50 Greatest Hits has cracked the top ten for the first time, moving seven spots to #7.

With their national reunion tour kicking off on 2 October, Midnight Oil re-enter the chart at #16 with the compilation Essential Oils: The Great Circle Gold Tour Edition. Originally released in November 2012 as Essential Oils, it previously peaked at #7.

With his single ‘Rockstar’ claiming #1 this week, American rapper Post Malone has moved up ten spots on the Albums Chart to #25, claiming a new peak for Stoney.

Debuts:

#1: The Killers ‘Wonderful Wonderful’ – The first studio album in five years from The Killers gives the American band their second #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The Killers’ fifth album, Wonderful Wonderful continues the group’s top ten run that began with Hot Fuss (#1 Feb. ’05) and continued with Sam’s Town (#2 Oct. ’06), Day & Age (#4 Dec. ’08) and Battle Born (#2 Sept. ’12). They also charted with the rarities compilation Sawdust (#6 Nov. ’07). The Killers are the headline act at this year’s AFL Grand Final.

#3: Macklemore ‘Gemini’ – American rapper Macklemore picks up his first solo appearance on the ARIA Albums Chart with Gemini. The album is Macklemore’s second solo album; the first, The Language Of My World, was released in 2005. He’s previously charted with two albums released with collaborator Ryan Lewis: The Heist (#2 Jan. ’13) and This Unruly Mess I've Made (#6 Mar. ’16). Gemini includes the singles ‘Glorious’ (#2 Aug. ‘17) and ‘Good Old Days’ (#25 Oct. ’17). Macklemore performs at this weekend’s NRL Grand Final.

#11: Van Morrison ‘Roll With The Punches’ – Illustrious singer-songwriter Van Morrison releases his 37th studio album Roll With The Punches. It becomes his third studio album in as many years to hit the ARIA top 50, following Duets: Re-Working The Catalogue (#10 Apr. ’15) and Keep Me Singing (#11 Oct. ’16). Roll With The Punches includes work with noted blues players Jeff Beck, Paul Jones and Georgie Fame.

#12: British India ‘Forgetting The Future’ – The sixth studio album from Melbourne’s British India gives the four-piece a fifth top 50 entry on the ARIA Albums Chart. Forgetting The Future is the follow-up to Nothing Touches Me (#5 Mar. ’15), the band’s highest chart peak to date along with Thieves (#5 Jul. ’08).

#21: King Parrot ‘Ugly Produce’ – Melbourne grindcore band King Parrot pick up a second Albums Chart entry thanks to third album Ugly Produce. The album’s debut comes just over two years on from King Parrot’s top 50 debut with Dead Set (#21 May ’15).

#23: Fanny Lumsden ‘Real Class Act’ – Aussie country music singer-songwriter Fanny Lumsden makes her Albums Chart top 50 debut with Real Class Act. Lumsden’s second album follows on from her ARIA-nominated debut album Small Town Big Shot.

#26: The Bronx ‘Bronx (V)’ – LA hardcore The Bronx nab a second top 50 appearance with their fifth self-titled album. In between the release of V and IV (#37 Feb. ’13), The Bronx released a studio album and a live album under their mariachi alter ego Mariachi El Bronx.

#39: Fergie ‘Double Dutchess’ – Black Eyed Peas vocalist Fergie releases her second solo album, Double Dutchess. The album’s debut comes just over ten years on from the #1 peak of her debut album The Dutchess (#1 Aug. ’07). Double Dutchess includes previous single ‘M.I.L.F. $’ (#26 Jul. ’16) and collaborations with Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross and more.
