Amity Affliction claim fourth #1 album with Misery

Debuts for BTS, John Williamson, Alice In Chains and more!

Gympie-formed metalcore band The Amity Affliction become the eighth Australian act to hit #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart in 2018, snaring a fourth chart-topper with Misery (more below).

With the announcement this week of her first Australian show, Cardi B jumps from #31 to #22 with debut album Invasion Of Privacy.

Keith Urban’s former #2, Graffiti U, Climbs back up seven to #25. The album has spent 18 weeks in the Top 50.

This One’s For You by Luke Combs climbs up nine spots to #28 in its 15th week in the chart.

With ‘Be Alright’ riding high at #1 on the Singles Chart for a third week, Dean Lewis’ Same Kind Of Different re-enters the Albums Chart at #36.

Following the announcement of his first Australian tour in over 20 years, Phil Collins returns to the chart at #40 with The Singles.

Debuts:

#1: The Amity Affliction ‘Misery’ – Queensland metalcore band The Amity Affliction score their fourth #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart with Misery. The group’s sixth studio release is the follow-up to This Could Be Heartbreak (#1 Aug. ’16). They’ve previously topped the ARIA Charts with Let The Ocean Take Me (#1 Jun. ’14) and Chasing Ghosts (#1 Sept. ’12). The Amity Affliction become the first Australian band to have four consecutive releases hit #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart.

#9: BTS ‘Love Yourself 'Answer'’ – K-pop group BTS take out a third Top Ten entry on the ARIA Albums Chart with Love Yourself 'Answer'. The compilation brings together tracks from Love Yourself: 'Her' (#8 Sept. ’17) and Love Yourself: 'Tear' (#6 May ’18), as well as seven newly-record tracks. One of the new songs, ‘Idol’, has debuted at #35 on this week’s Singles Chart.

#13: John Williamson ‘Butcherbird’ – ARIA Hall Of Fame member John Williamson releases his 20th studio album, Butcherbird. The album is Williamson’s first album of originals since Honest People (#11 Aug. ’14). In between he has charted with Looking For A Story (#32 May ’16) and His Favourite Collection (#9 Sept.’16).

#15: Alice In Chains ‘Rainier Fog’ – Hard rock veterans Alice In Chains release their first album in five years, Rainier Fog. The band’s sixth studio album is the third released with lead vocalist William DuVall after Black Gives Way To Blue (#12 Oct. ’09) and The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here (#10 Jun. ’13).

#21: Neil & Liam Finn ‘Lightsleeper’ – Father and son Neil and Liam Finn release their first collaborative album, Lightsleeper. The release features contributions from Finn family members Sharon, Elroy and Harper, as well as Neil Finn’s new Fleetwood Mac bandmate Mick Fleetwood. It’s Neil Finn’s first release since Out Of Silence (#9 Sept. ’17) and Liam’s first since 2014’s The Nihilist.

#26: Interpol ‘Marauder’ – With their sixth album, Marauder, New York indie rockers Interpol take out their fifth Top 50 entry on the ARIA Albums Chart. The album comes four years on from El Pintor (#11 Sept. ’14). Interpol took a break from recording Marauder to tour in support of the 15th anniversary of their 2002 debut album, Turn On The Bright Lights.

#31: Beccy Cole ‘Lioness’ – Country singer-songwriter Beccy Cole releases Lioness, her first solo album in three years. Between the release of Sweet Rebecca (#19 Apr. ’15) and Lioness, Cole teamed up with Adam Harvey on The Great Country Songbook Vol. II (#6 May ’17).

#37: Il Divo ‘Timeless’ – Classical crossover quartet Il Divo release their ninth studio album, Timeless. The album is the group’s seventh Top 50 in Australia and features covers of tracks by Adele, John Legend, Robbie Williams, Richard Marx, Elvis Presley and more. Il Divo previously topped the Albums Chart with Il Divo (#1 May ’05) and Ancora (#1 Nov. ’05).
