Debuts for Breaking Benjamin, Jason Aldean, Pentatonix and more!

The late Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu becomes the third Australian artist to debut at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart in 2018 and the first artist to top the ARIA Charts in an indigenous language with his fourth album, Djarimirri (Child Of The Rainbow).

A week on from debuting at #6, Cardi B’s debut album Invasion Of Privacy has moved up one spot to claim a new peak at #5.

In the week he was announced as the winner of the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Music, rapper Kendrick Lamar jumps back up 13 spots to #25 with fourth album, Damn. (#2 Apr. ’17).

With the Revamp covers collection still sitting in the Top Ten at #6, Elton John’s hits collection Diamonds becomes the week’s highest re-entry at #37.

Debuts:

#1: Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu ‘Djarimirri (Child Of The Rainbow)’ – With his fourth studio album, the late Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu scores his first #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Posthumously released, Djarimirri (Child Of The Rainbow) was completed just weeks before the Yolngu singer-songwriter’s passing in July 2017. It becomes the first album in an indigenous language to top the ARIA Charts. Gurrumul’s previous three studio albums all peaked at #3: Gurrumul (#3 Oct. ’08), Rrakala (#3 Apr. ’11) and The Gospel Album (#3 Aug. ’15).

#9: Breaking Benjamin ‘Ember’ – American rockers Breaking Benjamin crack the top ten on the ARIA Albums Chart for the first time with Ember. The group’s sixth album comes three years on from their only other Top 50 entry, Dark Before Dawn (#11 Jun. ’15) and four years on from their return from hiatus.

#10: Jason Aldean ‘Rearview Town’ – Jason Aldean takes out a second Top Ten entry with eighth Rearview Town. The American country star scored his highest peak with previous release They Don’t Know (#5 Sept. ’16). Rearview Town includes collaborations with Miranda Lambert and Florida Georgia Line.

#26: Pentatonix ‘PTX Presents: Top Pop, Vol. I’ – A cappella group Pentatonix release PTX Presents: Top Pop, Vol. I. The quintet’s sixth studio album is also their sixth release to hit the Top 50 on the Albums Chart. It comes a year on from PTX, VOL. 4 (#10 Apr. ’17) and is their first album to feature new bass vocalist Matt Sallee.

#30: Greta Bradman, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra ‘Home’ – Soprano Greta Bradman pays tribute to her hometown of Adelaide on her new album. Home was recorded at the city’s St. Peter's Cathedral with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the Adelaide Chamber Singers and conductor Luke Dollman. Bradman has previously charted with My Hero (#11 Aug. ’15).

#31: Confidence Man ‘Confident Music For Confident People’ – Brisbane dance-pop act Confidence Man hit the chart with their debut album Confident Music For Confident People. First appearing in 2016 with the single ‘Boyfriend (Repeat)’, Confidence Man features members of The Belligerents, Moses Gunn Collective and The Jungle Giants.

#36: The Hard Aches ‘Mess’ – The Hard Aches take out a new peak on the ARIA Albums Chart with Mess. The Adelaide duo’s second album comes three years on from debut Pheromones. In between albums, they charted with the EP I Freak Out (#48 Sept. ’16).

#41: Bazzi ‘Cosmic’ – American singer-songwriter Bazzi makes his Albums Chart debut with Cosmic. The Michigan-born artist’s debut album comes a month on from the highest peak of his single ‘Mine’ (#11 Mar. ’18).
