Trench lands Twenty One Pilots first ARIA #1

Debuts for Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper, Last Dinosaurs, Behemoth and more!

American duo Twenty One Pilots have claimed their first #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, debuting in the top spot this week with Trench (more below).

Slipping to #4 last week, Eminem’s Kamikaze moves back up to #2 this week – its sixth week on the chart.

After dropping out of the Top Ten last week for the first time since January, the Greatest Showman soundtrack moves back up five spots this week to #7, hitting its 41st week in the Top Ten.

Last week, Post Malone’s Beerbongs & Bentleys dropped to #13, its first week out of the Top Ten. This week, it’s moved back up four spots to #9. It’s the album’s 23rd week in the Top Ten. Malone’s album Stoney is up eleven places to #33.

In its fourth week in the Top 50, Billie Eilish’s debut EP Dont Smile At Me moves up seven spots to hit a new peak at #18.

Scoring nine ARIA Award nominations, Amy Shark has moved back into the Top 20 at #19 with former #1, Love Monster.

Panic! At The Disco jump back up 27 spots to #22 with former #1 Pray For The Wicked. Its sharp climb comes in the week the American band played three of the four dates of their Australian tour.

Debuts:

#1: Twenty One Pilots ‘Trench’ – Twenty One Pilots take out their first #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart with Trench. The American duo’s fifth studio album is the follow-up to breakthrough release Blurryface (#7 Aug. ’16). It’s a concept album based around a walled city named Dema. Twenty One Pilots will be touring Australia in support of the album in December.

#3: Lady Gaga, Bradley Cooper ‘A Star Is Born’ – Ahead of the film’s release into Australian cinemas next week, the soundtrack to the 2018 remake of A Star Is Born hits this week’s Albums Chart. The album features tracks performed and written by the film’s stars, Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, as well as writing contributions from Mark Ronson, Lukas Nelson, Jason Isbell and Dianne Warren, among others. One track from the soundtrack, ‘Shallow’, has debuted at #25 on this week’s Singles Chart. Lady Gaga last appeared on the Albums Chart with Joanne (#2 Oct. ’16).

#26: Last Dinosaurs ‘Yumeno Garden’ – Three years on from Wellness (#18 Sept. ’15), Brisbane’s Last Dinosaurs return with Yumeno Garden. It’s the third studio album from the group, having originally hit the chart with In A Million Years (#8 Mar. ’12).

#34: Behemoth ‘I Loved You At Your Darkest’ – Polish band Behemoth make their ARIA Top 50 debut with I Loved You At Your Darkest. It’s the eleventh studio album by the quartet who play “blackened death metal”. In their home country, Behemoth have topped the charts with their previous two albums: 2009’s Evangelion and 2014’s The Satanist.

#42: Cat Power ‘Wanderer’ – American singer-songwriter Chan Marshall releases her tenth album under the Cat Power moniker, Wanderer. The first Cat Power album since 2012 becomes the fourth to chart in the ARIA Top 50 after The Greatest (#25 Jan. ’06), Jukebox (#36 Jan. ’08) and Sun (#26 Sept. ’12).

#45: Lil Baby & Gunna ‘Drip Harder’ – American rappers Lil Baby and Gunna join forces for the mixtape Drip Harder. Featuring an appearance by Drake on the track ‘Never Recover’, the release gives both artists their first entry in the ARIA Top 50.

#49: Coheed & Cambria ‘The Unheavenly Creatures’ – With their ninth studio album, The Unheavenly Creatures, American progressive rock band Coheed & Cambria claim a third entry in the ARIA Top 50. It’s the quartet’s first album since 2015’s The Color Before The Sun and their first to chart since Year Of The Black Rainbow (#38 Apr. ’10).
