21 Weeks At The Top For Tones And I

The records keep falling.

Tones And I’s ‘Dance Monkey’ has now topped the ARIA Singles Chart for a record 21 weeks, six weeks longer than the previous record holder, Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’. In another milestone, ‘Dance Monkey’ notched up an 11th week at #1 in the UK, which gives Tones And I the record for longest running #1 by a female lead artist in UK Singles Charts history, passing Rihanna’s 2007 hit ‘Umbrella’ and Whitney Houston’s 1992 classic ‘I Will Always Love You’. Tones And I’s follow-up single ‘Never Seen The Rain’ has spent a total of eight weeks inside the Top Ten and falls one place to #8 this week. Her debut EP – The Kids Are Coming – also remains in the Top Ten of the ARIA Albums Chart, landing at #10 this week.

Moving up one place, ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ by Mariah Carey cracks the Top 10 for the second year in a row. Released with Carey’s Merry Christmas album in November 1994, the track peaked at #2 during its initial seven-week chart run. It returned to the Top 50 in December 2012 and has been back each festive season since, peaking at #1 in the final chart of 2018. This week, the song climbed to #1 in the US for the first time in its 25-year life span.

Other movers include Lewis Capaldi's 'Before You Go', which rises nine spots to #17; Wham!'s 'Last Christmas', which jumps seven places to #23; and a bunch of tracks from Harry Styles (more below).

Debuts:

#14: Trevor Daniel ‘Falling’ – Originally released in late 2018, ‘Falling’ becomes US singer-songwriter Trevor Daniel’s first ever ARIA Charts entry. Beginning as a bedroom producer in his hometown of Houston, Daniel has built a loyal following online, with ‘Falling’ recently featured on TikTok and generating over 130 million streams on Spotify.

#36: Camila Cabello Feat. DaBaby ‘My Oh My’ – The sixth single from Camila Cabello’s recently released second album Romance, ‘My Oh My’ becomes the Cuban-American singer’s sixth Top 50 entry as lead artist. Cabello appears in two more places on the chart this week: at #20 alongside Cardi B as a featured vocalist on Ed Sheeran’s ‘South Of The Border’, and at #21 on ‘Senorita’, her duet with Shawn Mendes which peaked at #1 in July of this year. Meanwhile Romance drops 14 places in its second week to land at #20 on the Albums Chart.

#35: Harry Styles 'Falling’ – With a new album out this week, Harry Styles invades the ARIA Singles Chart with five entries. The highest is ‘Adore You’, which moves up seven places to a new peak at #7. Other songs to hit the chart include ‘Watermelon Sugar’ (#12), Lights Up (#34), Falling (#35) and Golden (#34). ‘Adore You’ matches ‘Lights Up’ with a chart peak of #7, making it his equal second best performance as a solo artist, behind his #1 hit ‘Sign Of The Times’ (#1, Apr 2017).

#40: Stormzy Feat. Ed Sheeran & Burna Boy ‘Own It’ – British rapper and singer Stormzy, real name Michael Owuo, scores his second Top 50 hit of 2019. The first was ‘Vossi Bop’, which peaked at #34 in June and has since been certified Platinum. ‘Own It’ is the second collaboration between Stormzy and Ed Sheeran this year, following ‘Take Me Back To London’ from Sheeran’s album No.6 Collaborations Project.
