Debuts for Ocean Alley, J. Cole and more!

Ariana Grande holds #1 on the ARIA Charts for a second week with ‘7 Rings’. This week, the singer was in the news for getting the title tattooed on her hand in Japanese characters. However, fans pointed out that there was an error and Grande in fact got the characters for “shichirin”, which is a small charcoal grill. It was later corrected.

Jumping up six spots to #6 in its 26th week in the Top 50, Travis Scott and Drake’s ‘Sicko Mode’ claims a new peak. The track was #3 in the Triple J Hottest 100, which was broadcast on 27 January.

Hitting #8 on the Hottest 100, Billie Eilish’s ‘When The Party’s Over’ jumps back up eight spots to #23 in its 15th week on the chart.

There are also new peaks on this week’s Singles Chart for Dean Lewis’ ‘7 Minutes’ (#14), Calvin Harris & Rag’N’Bone Man’s ‘Giant’ (#25), Dominic Fike’s ‘3 Nights’ (#32) and The Chainsmokers’ ‘Hope’ (#40).

Debuts:

#9: Ocean Alley ‘Confidence’ – Fresh from topping the Triple J Hottest 100, Ocean Alley hit the Singles Chart for the first time with ‘Confidence’. The track was one of four tracks by the Sydney band to feature in this year’s countdown; they also appeared with ‘Knees’ (#10), their cover of Player’s ‘Baby Come Back’ (#16) and ‘Happy Sad’ (#100).

#15: J. Cole ‘Middle Child’ – After taking out five entries in the Top 50 in 2018, J. Cole returns with ‘Middle Child’. It’s the American rapper’s first new entry on the chart since he debuted in the same week with ‘KOD’ (#20 Apr. ’18), ‘ATM’ (#32 Apr. ’18), ‘Photograph’ (41 Apr. ’18), ‘Kevin’s Heart’ (#46 Apr. ’18) and ‘Motiv8’ (#47 Apr. ’18). All tracks came from the #1 album KOD (#1 Apr. ’18).

#35: Fisher ‘Losing It’ – Coming in at #2 in the Hottest 100, ‘Losing It’ becomes the first Top 50 entry for Australian house producer Fisher. ‘Losing It’ has previously been #1 on the ARIA Club Tracks Chart and appeared on a number of Billboard charts in the US. The track is nominated in the Best Dance Recording Category at the 2019 Grammys.

#47: Lauv & Troye Sivan ‘I’m So Tired…’ – American singer-songwriter Lauv teams up with ARIA Award winner Troye Sivan on ‘I’m So Tired…’. It’s Lauv’s first new chart entry since ‘There’s No Way’ (#37 Nov. ’18). Sivan is this week also at #24 with his collaboration with Charli XCX, ‘1999’ (#18 Jan. ’19).
