Cold Chisel Top Albums Chart With Blood Moon

Iconic Aussie rockers back on top after 21 years.

Cold Chisel have returned to the top of the Albums Chart with their latest LP Blood Moon, further cementing their place in the ARIA history books. See below for more on the incredible accomplishment.

'Tis the season for festive jingles, so it makes sense that Michael Buble's Christmas rises three places to #3 this week, The Seekers' We Wish You A Merry Christmas climbs 12 spots to #21, and Bing Crosby's Bing At Christmas jumps 12 positions to #30. Robbie Williams' The Christmas Present, meanwhile, remains at #2.

Also rising this week is Billie Eilish's When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, which lifts four places to #8.

Buoyed by a vinyl release, Hilltop Hoods' State Of The Art re-enters the chart at #41, while Ariana Grande's Thank U, Next makes a return at #44.

Roxette's The 30 Biggest Hits XXX re-enters the chart at #38 in the wake of singer Marie Fredriksson's death. The album originally peaked at #27 in March 2015. The Swedish duo scored five Top 10 albums over the course of their career, with combined certification of 9x Platinum. Take a look at their biggest hits on the ARIA Charts here.

Debuts:

#1: Cold Chisel ‘Blood Moon’ – Blood Moon, the ninth studio album from Cold Chisel, lands at #1 this week. It is their third #1 album in the ARIA Charts, after Twentieth Century (1984) and The Last Wave of Summer (1998). Cold Chisel had two more #1 albums before the ARIA Charts began - Circus Animals (1982) and Swingshift (1981). It has been 21 years since Cold Chisel topped the chart, and in that time they hit #2 with The Best Of Cold Chisel: All For You (2011), No Plans (2012) and The Perfect Crime (2015). Cold Chisel have ended their #2 streak, and now takes the record for the Australian band with most time between their first #1 and their latest - 38 years from 1981 until 2019.

#6: Camila Cabello ‘Romance’ – With her second studio album, Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello hasn’t quite managed to repeat the success of her debut, Camila, which entered the chart at #3 in January 2018. Romance was preceded by six singles, including ‘Liar’, which peaked at #31 and was the only one to chart in Australia. The album does however include Cabello’s #1 duet with Shawn Mendes, ‘Senorita’, from his self-titled third studio album.

#13: Kylie Minogue ‘Golden - Live In Concert’ – Aussie superstar Kylie Minogue makes her 19th appearance in the Top 20 with the companion piece to her most recent studio album, Golden, which debuted at #1 in April 2018. This is Minogue’s highest charting live album in the ARIA Albums Chart, following Showgirl Homecoming Live (#28 Feb. ‘07) and Intimate & Live (#28 Dec. ‘98). She also charted at #1 earlier this year with Step Back in Time: The Definitive Collection (#1 Jun. ’19).

#29: The Chainsmokers ‘World War Joy’ – US duo The Chainsmokers return to the Top 50 with their third studio album. The dance group previously had a hit with their debut Memories…Do Not Open (#4 Apr. ‘17) but their second album Sicko failed to chart. World War Joy features several collaborators including Australian acts 5 Seconds of Summer and Amy Shark, as well as blink-182, Kygo and Ty Dolla $ign.

#39: Juice WRLD 'Goodbye And Good Riddance' – Following his untimely death at 21 years of age this week, Juice WRLD’s debut album Goodbye And Good Riddance, which was released in 2018, enters the chart for the first time. Meanwhile, the late US singer and rapper's second album, Death Race For Love, re-enters at #45. The latter LP debuted at #8 in March of this year and spent 11 weeks inside the Top 50.

#50: Liam Payne ‘LP1’ – Liam Payne becomes the fourth One Direction star to release a solo album since the band entered their indefinite hiatus in 2016, following Harry Styles, Niall Horan and former member Zayn Malik. LP1 features singles ‘Strip That Down’ (#2 Jul. ‘17) and ‘For You (Fifty Shades Freed)’ featuring Rita Ora (#15 Feb. ’18).
