Tones And I Breaks Singles Chart Record

Dance Monkey is #1 for history-making 16th week!

Tones And I breaks the record for most weeks spent at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart. ‘Dance Monkey’, which is only her second single, breaks Ed Sheeran’s record of 15 weeks with Shape Of You, which has stood since 2017, and is the first Australian single to hold this record since the ARIA Charts began in 1983.

Dan Rosen, CEO of ARIA, said: “This is a truly historic achievement. I am so incredibly thrilled that an Australian artist now holds the record for the longest running Number One song in ARIA Chart history. From busking a year ago to shattering chart records, this is just the start for Tones And I.”

This is the latest chart record for the singer-songwriter, who has broken many records to get here. Over the last 16 weeks she beat out most weeks spent at #1 on the ARIA Singles by any female artist, and any Australian artist and finally this week, any artist. She has also topped the charts in 18 countries, including a record-breaking run by an Australian artist in the UK.

She has topped the global charts for Spotify, Shazam, Apple Music, YouTube Music and other music services. Tones And I now heads into literally uncharted territory, whilst in the middle of a sold-out world tour. She is returning to Australia to perform at the ARIA Awards on 27 November, where she leads the nominations tally with eight.

‘Never Seen The Rain’, her follow up to ‘Dance Monkey’, holds this week at #10.

In its eighth week on the Singles Chart, Maroon 5's ‘Memories’ rises two spots to a new peak. The band’s only previous single to better this position was ‘She Will Be Loved’ (#1 Sep. ‘04), with four other of their tracks peaking at #2: ‘Girls Like You’ (Jul. ’18), ‘One More Night’ (Aug. ‘12), ‘Payphone’ (Jun. ‘12) and ‘Moves Like Jagger’ (Aug. ‘11).

Fresh from an acclaimed performance at the MTV EMAs, English singer Dua Lipa's 'Don't Start Now' rises two spots to #6, equalling the success of her first Singles Chart entry, ‘Be The One’ (#6 May ‘16). She has also scored Top Ten hits with ‘New Rules’ (#2 Sep. ‘17) and ‘IDGAF’ (#3 Apr. ‘18). Lipa is set to perform at the 2019 ARIA Awards.

Jumping eight spots to #20, Meduza's ‘Lose Control’ is the week’s biggest mover. This is the Italian production trio’s second entry into the Singles Chart, with previous single ‘Piece Of Your Heart’ peaking at #7 in July of this year.
