Cardigan lands Taylor Swift sixth #1 single

American star Taylor Swift notches up her sixth #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart with ‘Cardigan’. The lead single from the album folklore (this week’s #1) becomes Swift’s first #1 since ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ (#1 Sept. ’17). Taylor Swift has also hit #1 with the singles ‘Love Story’ (#1 Mar. ’09), ‘Shake It Off’ (#1 Sept. ’14), ‘Blank Space’ (#1 Nov. ’14) and ‘Bad Blood’ (#1 Jun. ’15). Her sixth #1 means she only trails Rihanna (7), Delta Goodrem (9), P!nk (9), Kylie Minogue (10) and Madonna (10) in the list of female solo artists with the most ARIA chart toppers.

As well as debuting at #1 on this week’s chart, all 16 tracks from folklore have debuted in the Top 50. These include: ‘Exile’ (#3), ‘The 1’ (#4), ‘The Last Great American Dynasty’ (#7), ‘My Tears Ricochet’ (#8), ‘August’ (#13), ‘Mirrorball’ (#14), ‘Seven’ (#16), ‘This Is Me Trying’ (#18), ‘Invisible String’ (#19), ‘Illicit Affairs’ (#21), ‘Betty’ (#22), ‘Mad Woman’ (#25), ‘Epiphany’ (#29), ‘Peace’ (#33) and ‘Hoax’ (#43).

Swift breaks the record for most debuts in one week, previously held by Ed Sheeran and Post Malone, who had 13 each. Post Malone and Michael Jackson hold on to the record for most tracks in the Top 50 in one week with 17 each. The last artist to have five or more tracks in the Top Ten was Billie Eilish, who had six in April 2019.

At #48 Sydney hip hop act Onefour score their third Top 50 entry for 2020 with ‘Home And Away’. The group’s new single follows on from ‘Welcome To Prison’ (#33 Feb. ’20) and ‘Say It Again’ (#34 May ’20). It’s the first single to come from Onefour’s forthcoming debut EP.

The Kid Laroi takes out his second Singles Chart entry at #49 with ‘Tell Me Why’. Both this track and ‘Go’ (#23 Jun. ’20) come from the Sydney rapper’s debut mixtape F*ck Love, which has debuted at #3 on this week’s Albums Chart. This week ‘Go’ jumps eleven spots to #36.
