RIck Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up

British pop star Rick Astley’s debut single is, to date, his only chart-topping single in Australia. ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ spent seven straight weeks at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart in December 1987 and January 1988. The track debuted at #43 at the start of November and steadily climbed to hit the top spot in its sixth week in the top 50. It was later accredited Gold.

The album the single was lifted from, Whenever You Need Somebody, topped the chart for one week in April 1988. Two more tracks from the album also charted: ‘Whenever You Need Somebody’ (#3 Mar. ‘88) and ‘When I Fall In Love’ / ‘My Arms Keep Missing You’ (#5 May ‘88).

Rick Astley last appeared in the ARIA top 50 with ‘Cry For Help’ (#13 May ’91).
