Cocktail – Soundtrack

The soundtrack to the 1988 Tom Cruise film Cocktail spent five straight weeks at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart in January and February 1989. The album debuted at #23 in October 1988. After three straight weeks at #3, the album reached #1 in its eleventh week in the top 50. In total, Cocktail spent 17 weeks in the top ten.

Two tracks from the album reached #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart, one after the other: ‘Don’t Worry, Be Happy’ (#1 Nov. ’88) and ‘Kokomo’ (see below). Other artists featured on the Cocktail soundtrack include Starship, Little Richard, John Cougar Mellencamp and Ry Cooder.

Cocktail was #19 on the 1989 ARIA End Of Year Albums Chart. It was accredited 5x Platinum.


Kokomo – The Beach Boys

The only #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart for Rock And Roll Hall Of Famers The Beach Boys came when ‘Kokomo’ spent seven weeks. The single debuted at #28 in November 1988 before reaching the top spot in its sixth week in the top 50. It spent a total of 15 weeks in the top ten.

The Beach Boys topped the singles chart in Australia on two occasions prior to the advent of the ARIA Charts in 1983: ‘Good Vibrations’ (1966) and ‘Cottonfields’ (1970).

Receiving a Platinum accreditation, ‘Kokomo’ was #9 on the 1989 ARIA End Of Year Singles Chart.

The Beach Boys last appeared on the ARIA Singles Chart with ‘Still Cruisin'’ (# 28 Dec. ’89).
