Gloria Estefan - Cuts Both Ways

The debut solo album from American singer Gloria Estefan spent two straight weeks at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart in August 1990. Though still backed by Miami Sound Machine- the group she had lead since 1977 – Cuts Both Ways was Estefan’s first album solely credited to her.

Released in September 1989, Cuts Both Ways made its first top 50 appearance in June 1990, when it debuted at #14. It hit #1 for the first time in its ninth week in the top 50. In total, Cuts Both Ways spent 15 weeks in the top ten and 23 weeks in the top 50.

The album featured the singles ‘Don't Wanna Lose You‘ (#40 Nov. ’89), ‘Here We Are’ (#20 Jul. ’90) and ‘Cuts Both Ways’ (#38 Aug. ’90). Reaching #11 on the 1990 ARIA End Of Year Albums Chart, Cuts Both Ways was certified 3x Platinum.

Gloria Estefan last charted with the album Destiny (#13 Jun. ’96).


MC Hammer - U Can't Touch This

MC Hammer’s only #1 on the ARIA Charts came when ‘U Can't Touch This’ spent five consecutive weeks at the top of the chart in mid-1990. The track debuted at #42 in June and progressed up the chart to take the prime spot in its fifth week in the top 50. It spent a total of 21 weeks in the top 50, including 14 weeks in the top ten. It went on to receive a Platinum accreditation and reach #2 on the 1990 ARIA End Of Year Singles Chart.

‘U Can't Touch This’ came from MC Hammer’s third album Please Hammer Don’t Hurt Me (#5 Aug. ’90). Three other singles charted from the album: ‘Have You Seen Her’ (#42 Sept. ’90), ‘Pray’ (#7 Jan. ’91) and ‘Here Comes The Hammer’ (#37 Apr. ’91).

MC Hammer last appeared on the ARIA Singles Chart with ‘Addams Groove’ (#12 Feb. ’92).
