Debuts for Sam Smith, Guy Sebastian, Polaris and more!

P!nk’s seventh studio Beautiful Trauma maintains its hold of the #1 spot on the ARIA Albums Chart for a fourth consecutive week.

On the back of the success of the single ‘Young Dumb & Broke’ (currently #5), Khalid’s American Teen has moved up five spots to claim a new peak at #13. It’s the album’s 27th week in the top 50.

Festive favourite Michael Buble’s Christmas re-enters the chart for a seventh year in a row, hitting #24 this week.

Debuts:

#2: Sam Smith ‘The Thrill Of It All’ – British singer-songwriter Sam Smith claims #2 on this week’s ARIA Albums Chart with second album The Thrill Of It All. It’s Smith’s second album to debut at #2 on the Aria Charts; previous album In The Lonely Hour (#1 Apr. ’15) hit #1 for the first time in its 48th week in the top 50. The Thrill Of It All features the singles ‘Too Good At Goodbyes’ (#1 Sept. ’17) and ‘Pray’ (#41 Nov. ’17).

#4: Guy Sebastian ‘Conscious’ –  With his first album in three years, Guy Sebastian picks up a ninth top ten entry on the ARIA Albums Chart. Sebastian’s eighth studio album, Conscious is the follow-up to Madness (#6 Dec. ’14). Between albums, the singer-songwriter released the EP Part 1 (#31 Dec. ’16).

#6: Polaris ‘The Mortal Coil’ – Metalcore band Polaris release their debut album The Mortal Coil. It’s the Sydney group’s second appearance in the ARIA top 50, having charted at #34 with EP The Guilt and The Grief in February 2016.

#7: Maroon 5 ‘Red Pill Blues’ – American band Maroon 5 return with sixth album Red Pill Blues. The album, which features the singles ‘Don’t Wanna Know’ (#6 Nov. ’16), ‘Cold’ (#27 Mar. ’17) and ’What Lovers Do’ (#7 Nov. ’17), comes three years on from V (#4 Sept. ’14). Maroon 5 have had six top ten albums, including the #1 Songs About Jane (#1 Oct. ’04).

#9: Roy Orbison ‘A Love So Beautiful: Roy Orbison & The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’ – The late, great Roy Orbison receives the orchestral treatment with A Love So Beautiful: Roy Orbison & The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It’s the third Orbison collection to chart in as many years, coming on the back of One Of The Lonely Ones (#40 Dec. ’15) and The Ultimate Collection (#12 Nov. ’16). The new album includes reworkings of Orbison classics including ‘In Dreams’, ‘Crying’, ‘Only The Lonely’, ‘You Got It’ (#3 Feb. ’89) and more.

#12: Kelsea Ballerini ‘Unapologetically’ – The second album from Kelsea Ballerini gives the American country artist a new peak on the ARIA Albums Chart. Unapologetically comes just over two years on from The First Time (#33 Mar. ’16).

#23: Blake Shelton ‘Texoma Shore’ – American country star Blake Shelton takes out a fourth top 50 entry with Texoma Shore. Named after a lake on the border of Texas and Oklahoma, the album is Shelton’s eleventh studio release and comes just over a year after If I’m Honest (#13 May ’16).

#39: 21 Savage, Offset & Metro Boomin ‘Without Warning’ – American rappers 21 Savage and Offset join forces with producer Metro Boomin for the collaborative album Without Warning. It’s the second Albums Chart appearance for 21 Savage this year, following Issa Album (#42 Jul. ’17). It’s the debut top 50 appearances for Offset and Metro Boomin.

#40: Various ‘Thirty Days Of Yes’ – Released to show for the LGBTQI+ community, this mixtape features tracks from a host of Australian artists including The Murlocs, The Jezabels, Washington, Jen Cloher & Courtney Barnett, Gordi and more. 100% of the profits will go to LGBTQI+ youth organisations, Minus18 and Twenty10. 

#42: Kygo ‘Kids In Love’ – Kygo hits the Albums Chart with Kids In Love. It’s the Norwegian DJ’s second album, coming just over a year on from debut Cloud Nine (#13 May ’16). He recently peaked at #43 on the Singles Chart with the EP Stargazing.
