Diesel - The Lobbyist

With his second solo album, singer-songwriter Diesel (aka Mark Lizotte) took out his second consecutive #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The follow-up to Hepfidelity (#1 Mar. ’92), The Lobbyist debuted at #1 and went on to spend five weeks in the top ten and 12 weeks in the top 50.

A mix of live, studio and acoustic recordings, The Lobbyist featured the singles ‘Never Miss Your Water’ (#12 Aug. ’93), ‘Masterplan’ (#42 Oct. 93) and the Otis Redding cover ‘I've Been Loving You Too Long’ (#41 Jan. ’94).

It achieved a Gold accreditation and earned Diesel the Best Male Artist award at the 1994 ARIAs (the second of three consecutive years times he won that gong).

Diesel followed The Lobbyist with Solid State Rhyme (#10 Nov. ’14). He most recently charted with Americana (#15 Jul. ’16).


UB40 - (I Can't Help) Falling In Love With You

British reggae band UB40 dominated the top of the ARIA Singles Chart when their version of their version of ‘(I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You’ spent seven straight weeks at #1 during July and August 1993. The first single release from UB40’s tenth studio album Promises And Lies (#1 Aug. ’93) debuted at #27 in mid-June and hit the top spot for the first time in its fourth week in the top 50. In total, ‘(I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You’ spent 12 weeks in the top ten and 20 weeks in the top 50

Topping the charts in the US, Canada, the UK and many other countries, UB40’s version of ‘(I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You’ was #5 in the 1993 ARIA End Of Year Singles Chart. It was accredited 2x Platinum.

It was UB40’s second #1 single in Australia; ‘I Got You Babe’, a duet with Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders spent three weeks on top in October/November 1985.

Originally recorded by Elvis Presley in 1961, ‘(I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You’ has also been recorded by the many artists including U2, The Triffids, Doris Day, Bob Dylan, Rick Astley, Kenny Rogers and Kamahl.

UB40 last hit the ARIA Singles Chart with ‘Higher Ground’ (#40 Oct. ’93).
