Savage Garden - SAVAGE GARDEN

The debut album from Savage Garden spent 19 weeks at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart during the course of 1997. The Brisbane duo’s self-titled album debuted at #1 at the end of March and remained there for 12 straight weeks. I returned to #1 for another seven non-consecutive weeks between July and October. Savage Garden spent a total of 47 weeks in the top ten and 77 weeks in the top 50.

Savage Garden’s debut album was #1 on the 1997 ARIA End Of Year Albums Chart. It has been accredited 12x Platinum. The album earned Savage Garden five of the ten ARIA Awards the duo won in 1997, including Album Of The Year and Best Independent Release.

Five singles from the album hit the top 50: ‘I Want You’ (#4 Sept. ’96), ‘To The Moon & Back’ (#1 Jan. ’97), ‘Truly, Madly, Deeply’ (see below), ‘Break Me, Shake Me’ (#7 Jun. ’97) and ‘Universe’ (#26 Nov. ’97).

Savage Garden also topped the Albums Chart with follow-up release Affirmation (#1 Nov. ’99). The duo split in 2001. Their last release to chart was the compilation The Singles (#15 Jun. ’15).


SAVAGE GARDEN - Truly, Madly, Deeply

Savage Garden’s second #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart came when ‘Truly, Madly, Deeply’ spent eight straight weeks in the top spot during April and May, 1997. The follow-up single to ‘To The Moon & Back’ (#1 Jan. ’97) debuted at #13 in mid-March and hit #1 for the first time in its fourth week in the top 50. It went on to spend 17 weeks in the top ten and 32 weeks in the top 50.

Accredited 2x Platinum, ‘Truly, Madly, Deeply’ was #7 on the 1997 ARIA End Of Year Singles Chart. At the 1997 ARIA Awards, it took out Single Of The Year and Highest Selling Single.

Savage Garden’s last appearance in the ARIA Singles Chart was with ‘Chained To You’ (#21 Oct. ’00)
