Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The HEad

The first of Coldplay’s five #1s to date on the ARIA Albums Chart came when their second album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, debuted in the top spot in September 2002. The follow-up to Parachutes (#2 Feb. ’01) would go on to spend a total of 19 weeks in the top ten and 87 weeks in the top 50.

A Rush Of Blood To The Head included the singles ‘In My Place’ (#23 Aug. ’02), ‘Clocks’ (#28 Mar. ’03), ‘God Put A Smile Upon Your Face’ (#43 Jul. ’03) and ‘The Scientist’ (#40 Nov. ’03). The album was accredited 7x Platinum and was #48 on the 2002 ARIA End Of Year Albums Chart.

Coldplay have also topped the ARIA Albums Chart with X & Y (#1 Jun. ’05), Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (#1 Jun. ’08), Mylo Xyloto (#1 Oct. ’11) and Ghost Stories (#1 May ’14).

They last charted with their seventh studio album A Head Full Of Dreams (#2 Dec. ’15).


Avril Lavigne - Complicated

Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne’s debut single also became her first #1 when it had a six-week run at the top of the ARIA Charts in August/September 2002. ‘Complicated’ debuted on the chart at #17 in July and climbed up to reach the #1 position in its fifth week in the top 50. In total, ‘Complicated’ spent ten weeks in the top ten and 13 weeks in the top 50.

The single came from Lavigne’s debut album Let Go (#1 Dec. ’02). Other singles to come from the album included ‘Sk8er Boi’ (#3 Nov. ’02) and ‘Losing Grip’ (#20 May ’03).

‘Complicated’ was #8 on the 2002 ARIA End Of Year Singles Chart and received an accreditation of 2x Platinum.

To date, Lavigne has scored one other #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart, spending six weeks in the top spot with ‘Girlfriend’ during April and May 2007. She last charted with ‘Rock N Roll’ (#45 Sept. ’13).
