Debuts for Hillsong Worship, Cardi B, Alison Wonderland and more!

Kylie Minogue has become the second Australian artist to top the ARIA Albums Chart in 2018 as she debuts in the top spot with Golden.

It’s a substantially different chart to last week with ten debuts, including seven in the Top Ten.

With news that Lindsey Buckingham has been replaced in Fleetwood Mac by Crowded House’s Neil Finn and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ Mike Campbell, the band’s The Very Best Of Fleetwood Mac has re-entered the Top 50 at #32. The Very Very Best Of Crowded House has also re-entered the chart, it’s at 47.

Announced as one of the headliner of this year’s Splendour In The Grass, Lorde has re-entered at #36 with second album Melodrama.

Debuts:

#1: Kylie Minogue ‘Golden’ – Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue scores her fifth #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart with Golden. The ARIA Hall Of Fame member’s 14th studio album was recorded primarily in Nashville and features the single ‘Dancing’ (#46 Jan. ’18). It’s Minogue’s first album since Impossible Princess (#4 Jan. ‘98) where she has a writing credit on every track. Minogue has previously topped the Albums Chart with Light Years (#1 Oct. ’00), Fever (#1 Oct. ’01), X (#1 Dec. ’07) and Kiss Me Once (#1 Mar. ’14).

#2: Hillsong Worship ‘There Is More’ – Hillsong Worship take out a third top three debut with There Is More. The live album is the follow-up to The Peace Project (#18 Oct. ’17). The group have also previously charted with Let There Be Light (#2 Oct. ’16) and Open Heaven/River Wild (#1 Oct. ’15).

#5: Various ‘Revamp: The Songs Of Elton John & Bernie Taupin’ – One of music’s greatest writing partnerships are paid tribute to on Revamp: The Songs Of Elton John & Bernie Taupin. The album features the likes of Coldplay, P!nk, Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga, Sam Smith, The Killers, Queens Of The Stone Age and more reworking tracks originally released by John between 1970 and 1983.

#6: Cardi B ‘Invasion Of Privacy’ – Cardi B makes her first Albums Chart appearance with Invasion Of Privacy. The American rapper’s debut album features the single ‘Bodak Yellow’ (#33 Nov. ’17), as well as collaborations with SZA, Migos, Chance The Rapper, Kehlani, 21 Savage and more.

#7: Alison Wonderland ‘Awake’ – Sydney’s Alison Wonderland scores a second top ten entry with Awake. The DJ/producer’s second album is the follow-up to Run (#6 Mar. ’15) and includes contributions from rappers Chief Keef, Buddy and Trippie Reid.

#10: 30 Seconds To Mars ‘America’ – 30 Seconds To Mars return with their first album in five years, America. It’s the Jared Leto-fronted band’s fifth studio album and fourth to chart in the ARIA Top 50. They picked up their highest peak to date with previous album Love Lust Faith + Dreams (#4 May ’13).

#19: Various ‘Johnny Cash: Forever Words’ – Previously unreleased poetry, lyrics, and letters by The Man In Black are put to music on the tribute release Johnny Cash: Forever Words. Artists who contributed to the album include including Kacey Musgraves, Rosanne Cash, Alison Krauss, Brad Paisley, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Elvis Costello, and, in one of his last recordings, the late Chris Cornell.

#20: City Calm Down ‘Echoes In Blue’ – Melbourne indie quartet City Calm Down grab a new chart peak with Echoes In Blue. The group’s second album, it comes three years on from debut In A Restless House (#25 Nov. ’15).

#30: Aunty Donna ‘The Album’ – Comedy group Aunty Donna make their chart debut with, The Album. The Melbourne act’s first album includes cameos from former ARIA winners Montaigne and Matt Okine.

#37: Cosmic Psychos ‘Loudmouth Soup’ – Veteran Melbourne punk rock group Cosmic Psychos make their first ever appearance in the ARIA Top 50 with Loudmouth Soup. It’s their eleventh studio album and comes just over 30 years since the release of the trio’s self-titled debut.
