Coldplay Top Albums Chart For 6th Time

'Everyday Life' debuts at #1.

Coldplay score their sixth chart-topper this week with double album Everyday Life. Of the English band’s eight studio albums, the only two not to peak in the top spot are Parachutes (#2 Feb. ‘01), which reached #2 in February 2001, and A Head Full Of Dreams, which hit #2 in December 2015 (more below).

The Teskey Brothers’ second LP, Run Home Slow, re-enters the Top 50 after being awarded Best Blues & Roots Album at the 2019 ARIA Awards, where they delivered a stunning performance of their track ‘Rain’. On the strength of Run Home Slow, which debuted at #2 in August of this year, the Melbourne band also collected ARIAs for Best Group and Engineer of the Year, making it three wins from seven nominations.

‘Tis the season for festive albums, so it’s no surprise that Michael Buble’s Christmas jumps 30 spots to #19 this week.
 
Kylie Minogue’s Step Back In Time: The Definitive Collection makes a return to the Top 50 for the first time since July of this year, when it debuted at #1 and stayed in the chart for three weeks.
 
Debuts
 
#1: Coldplay ‘Everyday Life’ – Coldplay return to the summit for the first time since Ghost Stories debuted at #1 in May 2014. Comprising 16 tracks, Everyday Life is divided into two sections: Sunrise and Sunset, but don’t expect the English band to play their new material in Australia anytime soon, as they’ve cited environmental concerns for prompting them to abstain from international touring.
 
#2: Robbie Williams ‘The Christmas Present’ – Robbie Williams makes his 13th appearance in the Albums Chart Top 10 with his follow-up to The Heavy Entertainment Show (#4 Nov. ‘16). Comprising originals and cover versions of festive classics, the UK superstar’s first Christmas album features guest vocalists Tyson Fury, Rod Stewart, Jamie Cullum, Helene Fischer and Bryan Adams.
 
#3: Rod Stewart & The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra ‘You’re In My Heart’ – Rod Stewart enters the Top 50 for a 24th time with You’re In My Heart, which pairs classic vocal tracks from Stewart’s biggest hits with arrangements performed by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Also included on the album is new track ‘Stop Loving Her Today’ and a new version of ‘It Takes Two’ with Robbie Williams.
 
#10: Human Nature ‘Still Telling Everybody: 30 Years Of Hits’ – In a week of milestones, Human Nature celebrated 30 years as a band and were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame at the 2019 ARIA Awards, where they also performed a medley of their biggest hits. Still Telling Everybody features highlights from their career, which has encompassed 11 previous Top 10 albums including most recent Romance Of The Jukebox, which debuted at #2 in August 2018.
 
#11: Leonard Cohen ‘Thanks For The Dance’ – Leonard Cohen’s 15th studio album and the first to be released since his death in November 2016, Thanks For The Dance becomes the legendary singer-songwriter’s eighth entry into the Top 50. Cohen recorded the album’s vocal tracks during the same recording sessions for his previous LP, You Want It Darker (#2 Nov. ‘16), with instrumentation provided later by musicians including Daniel Lanois, Beck, Jennifer Warnes, Damien Rice and Leslie Feist. 

#16: Jason Aldean ‘9’ – US country star Jason Aldean scores his fourth Top 50 entry with his ninth studio album, appropriately titled 9. Aldean’s previous entries were Rearview Town (#10 Apr. ‘18), They Don’t Know (#5 Sep. ’16) and Old Boots, New Dirt (#13 Oct. ‘14).
 
#29: Andre Rieu & The Johann Strauss Orchestra ‘Happy Days’ – Dutch violinist and conductor Andre Rieu enters the Top 50 for an 18th time with Happy Days, which is a career-spanning collection of songs released in celebration of his 70th birthday on October 1. Rieu’s best performance on the Album Chart to date remains Waltzing Matilda (#1 May ‘08).
 
#33: Beck ‘Hyperspace’ – US musician Beck makes his 10th appearance in the Top 50 with Hyperspace, his 14th studio album, which he co-produced with Pharrell Williams. Beck last entered the Albums Chart in 2017, when Colors debuted at #14.
 
#44: Bing Crosby ‘Bing At Christmas’ – The king of Christmas music, Bing Crosby returns to the Top 50 with this collection of songs featuring his vocals and arrangements performed by the London Symphony Orchestra.
