Mendes and Cabello hit #1 with Señorita

July 27, 2019

Moves for Tones And I, Meduza, Blanco Brown and more!

After four consecutive weeks at #2, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello hit #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart with ‘Señorita’. It becomes the first chart-topping single in Australia for Canadian singer-songwriter Mendes and the second for Cuban-American artist Cabello after she spent three weeks in the top spot in late-2017 with ‘Havana’ (#1 Nov. ’17).

In its 16th week in the Top 50, Lil Nas X’s ‘Old Town Road’ hasn’t notched up its 14th week at #1 as some predicted, instead it’s dropped back to #2. Another remix of the track was dropped in the dying moments of the chart week; the new version comes courtesy of BTS member RM, who retitled the track ‘Seoul Town Road’.

If ‘Old Town Road’ doesn’t return to the top spot, it falls short of the record for most weeks spent at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart. The record currently remains with Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape Of You’, which spent 15 non-consecutive weeks at #1.

On the back of an acclaimed performance at Splendour In The Grass last weekend, Tones And I jumps up five spots to hit a new peak at #3 with ‘Dance Monkey’. The Byron Bay artist will release her debut EP, The Kids Are Coming, on 30 August. A new track, ‘Never Seen The Rain’, has debuted at #38 this week and debut single ‘Johnny Run Away’ has moved back up to #15.

After dropping out of the Top Ten last week, Italian house trio Meduza’s ‘Piece Of Your Heart’ jumps back up four spots to #8, sitting one spot below its previous peak. It’s the single’s fourth week in the Top Ten.

Shifting to #10, Guy Sebastian’s ‘Choir’ holds a spot in the Top Ten for a fourth consecutive week. In total, Sebastian has spent 85 weeks in the ARIA Singles Chart Top Ten throughout his career.

As it notches up its sixth week in the Top 50, ‘The Git Up’ by Blanco Brown move up two spots to score a new peak at #11 and sit just one spot outside of the Top Ten.

There are also new peaks on this week’s chart for Ali Gatie’s ‘It’s You’ (#19), Kygo & Whitney Houston’s ‘Higher Love’ (#20), Y2K & bbno$’s ‘Lalala’ (#25), Marshmello’s ‘One Thing Right’ (#28), Illy’s ‘Then What’ (#36) and Jessica Mauboy’s ‘Little Things’ (#44)

Debuts:

#14: Sam Smith ‘How Do You Sleep?’ – Sam Smith releases his second single of 2019, ‘How Do You Sleep?’. The English singer-songwriter peaked at #6 in March of this year with his duet with Normani, ‘Dancing With A Stranger’. Smith previously hit the top of the chart with ‘Too Good At Goodbyes’ (#1 Sept. ’17).

#38: Tones and I ‘Never Seen The Rain’ – Byron Bay artist Tones and I takes out a third Top 50 entry with ‘Never Seen The Rain’. Like ‘Johnny Run Away’ (#12 Jun. ’19) and ‘Dance Monkey’ (#3 this week), the new track comes from the upcoming debut Tones and I EP, The Kids Are Coming, set for release on 30 August.

#48: Beyonce, JAY-Z & Childish Gambino ‘Mood 4 Eva’ – As she debuts at #12 on this week’s Albums Chart with The Lion King: The Gift, Beyoncé scores her first Singles Chart entry since 2016 with ‘Mood 4 Eva’. Featuring on the album, the track includes contributions from husband JAY-Z, as well as Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover) who also performs opposite Beyoncé in The Lion King.

#50: Andy Grammer ‘Don't Give Up On Me’ – American singer-songwriter Andy Grammer grabs his first Singles Chart entry in two years with ‘Don't Give Up On Me’. Taken from Grammer’s fourth studio album, Naïve (out 26 July), it’s his first appearance on the chart since ‘Fresh Eyes’ (#5 Jan. ’17), his highest peak.
