Roxette's biggest hits on the ARIA Charts

December 12, 2019

In memory of Marie Fredriksson.

It's very sad to hear of the passing of Marie Fredriksson, who with Roxette became one of the biggest acts of the late 1980s and early '90s.

The Swedish duo, made up of Fredriksson and writer-composer Per Gessle, achieved massive success in Australia, with a string of popular singles including three #1s, a further four Top Tens, and a total of 13 Top 50 entries.

Roxette's biggest hit on the ARIA Singles Chart was 'The Look', which featured one of Marie's most iconic vocal hooks and spent six straight weeks at #1 in July/August 1989. It was the first of four Top Ten hits from the album Look Sharp! (#2 Sept.’89); they also charted with ‘Dressed For Success’ (#3 Sept. ’89), ‘Listen To Your Heart’ (#10 Nov. ’89) and ‘Dangerous’ (#9 May ’90) from the same album. The pair later topped the chart for two weeks with ‘It Must Have Been Love’ (#1 Jul. ’90) and for three weeks with ‘Joyride’ (#1 Apr. ’91).

The band also scored five Top 10 albums, with combined certification of 9x Platinum.

Marie will be sorely missed from the pop landscape but her unmistakable voice will live on in her much-loved music. Here's a rundown of Roxette's entries in the Top 50 of the ARIA Singles and Albums Charts.
