Newcastle trio Silverchair took out their third #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart when Neon Ballroom debuted in the top spot on March 1999. After spending its first week on the chart at #1, the group’s third studio album went on to stay a total of seven weeks in the Top Ten and 40 weeks in the Top 50.

Singles released from Neon Ballroom included ‘Anthem For The Year 2000’ (#3 Mar. ’99), ‘Ana's Song (Open Fire)’ (#14 May ’99) and ‘Miss You Love’ (#17 Sept. ’99). The album earned Silverchair nine ARIA Awards nominations in 1999, of which they won one.

Neon Ballroom was accredited 2x Platinum and landed at #16 on the 1999 ARIA End Of Year Albums Chart.

Silverchair also topped the ARIA Albums Chart with Frogstomp (#1 Apr. ’95), Freak Show (#1 Feb. ’97), Diorama (#1 Apr. ’02) and Young Modern (#1 Apr. ’07) before splitting in 2011.



Britney Spears announced her arrival on the ARIA Charts when debut single ‘…Baby, One More Time’ spent nine weeks at #1 between February and April 1999. The title track to Spears’ debut album (#2 Jul. ’99) debuted at #20 at the end of January before hitting #1 for the first time in its fifth week in the Top 50. ‘…Baby, One More Time’ spent a total of 17 weeks in the Top Ten and 23 weeks in the Top 50.

Hitting #2 on the 1999 ARIA End Of Year Singles Chart, ‘…Baby, One More Time’ was accredited 3x Platinum.

Britney Spears has also hit #1 on the Singles Chart with ‘Oops!... I Did It Again’ (#1 May ’00), ‘Me Against The Music’ (#1 Nov. ’03), ‘Toxic’ (#1 Mar. ’04) and ‘Everytime’ (#1 Jun. ’04).
