Juice WRLD hits #1

July 25, 2020

Debuts for The Chicks, BTS and more!

After debuting at #3 last week, Legends Never Die by the late American rapper Juice WRLD hits #1 in its second week on the ARIA Albums Chart. Featuring contributions from Australian rapper The Kid Laroi, as well as Marshmello, Trippie Redd, and Halsey, the album is the first posthumous release from Juice WRLD after he died in December 2019. It becomes the second posthumous album to top the chart in three weeks, following the #1 debut of Pop Smoke’s Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon (#3 this week).

Debuts:

#2: The Chicks ‘Gaslighter’ – The American country act formerly known as the Dixie Chicks rebrand as The Chicks and score their second #2 album on the ARIA Charts with Gaslighter. The trio’s eighth studio album is their first since Taking The Long Way (#2 May ’06) 14 years ago. The Chicks took out three Top 50 appearances in Australia between studio albums, most recently with DCX MMXVI Live (#20 Sept. ’17). The group’s decision to change their moniker came during the recent Black Lives Matter protests across the US.

#9: BTS ‘Map Of The Soul: 7 ~The Journey~’ – K-pop superstars BTS take out their second Top Ten on the Albums Chart in 2020 with Map Of The Soul: 7 ~The Journey~. It’s the first of the group’s Japanese language albums to hit the Top 50. It debuted at #65 last week, with its move up the chart coming from the release of the physical edition. BTS topped the ARIA Albums Chart earlier in the year with Map Of The Soul: 7 (#1 Mar. ’20).

#23: Oliver Tree ‘Ugly Is Beautiful’ – American musician/comedian/filmmaker Oliver Tree makes his ARIA Charts debut with Ugly Is Beautiful. It’s believed that Tree’s first studio album will also be his last after announcing his intention to retire from music. Ugly Is Beautiful was originally meant to be released in March but was held back a number of times.

#25: Ellie Goulding ‘Brightest Blue’ – Ellie Goulding returns with her first album in five years, Brightest Blue. The British singer-songwriter’s fourth album includes the single ‘Close To Me’ (#25 Jan. ’19), as well as tracks featuring blackbear, Lauv and Juice WRLD. Goulding was last on the Albums Chart with Delirium (#3 Nov. ’15).
