Temper Trap score second #1 with Thick As Thieves

Debuts for Garbage, Dope Lemon, Nick Jonas and more!

In what is becoming a fairly regular occurrence, there’s another new #1 on the ARIA Charts this week and it’s Australian. The Temper Trap’s Thick As Thieves is the tenth Australian album to hit #1 on the ARIA Charts in 2016.

Up from #4, Adele’s 25 has hit #2 for the first time since April. It’s the album’s ninth week in that position. Her 21 album is up 16 spots to #20.

Ahead of the likely debut of their eleventh album The Getaway on next week’s chart, Red Hot Chili Peppers re-enter the chart with Greatest Hits. The album originally peaked at #2 in December 2003.


#1: The Temper Trap ‘Thick As Thieves’ – Melbourne’s The Temper Trap pick up their second #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart with Thick As Thieves. The group’s third studio album is the follow-up to 2012’s self-titled release (#1 May ’12) and features the single ‘Fall Together’ (#May ’16).

#9: Garbage ‘Strange Little Bird’ – Alt-rock veterans Garbage return with their sixth album and first in four years, Strange Little Birds. It’s the second album released by the band following their reformation in 2010, the first being Not Your Kind Of People (#8 May ’12). All of Garbage’s studio albums have charted in the top ten in Australia, with Beautiful Garbage topping the chart for one week in October 2001.

#11: Dope Lemon ‘Honey Bones’ – Dope Lemon, the new project from Angus Stone, release their debut album Honey Bones. It’s Stone’s third album release outside of the ARIA Award winning duo of Angus & Julia Stone, following on from Smoking Gun by Lady Of The Sunshine (#45 Apr. ’09) and the Angus Stone solo album Broken Brights (#2 Jul. ’12). Dope Lemon features Rohin Brown (The Walking Who) and Elliot Hammond (The Delta Riggs).

#13: Nick Jonas ‘Last Year Was Complicated’ – The third solo album from Nick Jonas gives the American performer his highest peak on the ARIA Albums Chart. The follow-up to Jonas’ self-titled second album (#40 Mar. ’15) features the single ‘Close’ (#37 Apr. ’16).

#18: letlive. ‘If I'm The Devil...’ – American post-hardcore band letlive. grab their first ARIA top 50 appearance thanks to If I'm The Devil.... It’s their fourth studio album and the follow-up to 2013’s The Blackest Beautiful.

#22: Band Of Horses ‘Why Are You OK’ – Band Of Horses pick up their third ARIA top 50 album with Why Are You OK. It’s their fifth album and first since Mirage Rock (#21 Sept. ’12) four years ago. Infinite Arms (#19 May ’10) remains the quintet’s highest chart peak.

#26: Paul McCartney ‘Pure McCartney’ – This new retrospective set from Paul McCartney takes in highlights from throughout his post-Beatles career as a solo artist and as the leader of Wings. It includes material spanning from 1970’s McCartney, right through to 2013’s New (#22 Oct. ’13) and comes in several iterations including two and four CD sets.

#29: Tom Odell ‘Wrong Crowd’ – The second album from Tom Odell gives the British singer-songwriter his first top 50. Wrong Crowd is the follow-up to 2013’s Long Way Down.

#32: Play School ’50 Best Songs’ – Released to celebrate the 50th birthday of the much-loved children’s TV institution Play School50 Best Songs features a collection of the best-loved tracks from throughout the show’s history, performed by a wide range of much-loved presenters.

#41: Ngaiire ‘Blastoma’ – Sydney-based, Papua New Guinea-born artist Ngaiire makes her Albums Chart debut with Blastoma. The singer-songwriter’s second album comes three years on from her debut Lamentations.

#42: Original Broadway Cast Of Hamilton ‘Hamilton (Original Broadway Cast Recording)’ – On the back of its eleven Tony Awards, the soundtrack to the hit Broadway musical Hamilton makes its chart debut. In the US, the album is the highest-charting cast album since 1963 and was the first cast album to ever peak at number one on the Rap Album chart.
